This will get me through the dark days before and after Christmas I would think It's a 1957 Chrysler Windsor with some bad taste '80s purple paintjob applied, which will change very soon ofcourse. I bought the car about 2-3 months ago already and it finally arrived in my garage. The car is now taking a well deserved nap on the carlift, where it will get a full-inspection and cleaning this coming weekend... In time, I will try get the painted chrome trim back to it's former shine. I don't like the painted bumpers either but I got told they where sanded before being painted, so they will mostlikely have to be rechromed to be brought back to a shine again. But I'm not sure my wallet will allow that right now. The car will also get a different set of wheels in exchange for the gastly truckwheels it has now... I can only guess what must have gone through the guy's mind when he 'did' this car up. I'll choose something more vintage like, like Supremes or some spokewheels I still have with whitewall tires. Current tires are 235/60 at the front and 245/60 at the rear. I also plan on lowering the car some 3" all around for a better stance. The (354ci I think) poly-engine still seems bone stock and runs very nice. This will remain this way for the time being. But I might look into having the engine converted to a Hemi sometime. First thing on the menu is getting the car ready for the Dutch version of the DMV, which means changing the headlights for European approved ones, and do a full drivetrain check for play and wear on balljoints and linkages. I found the car online in Connecticut. Last wednesday it got delivered by a friend of mine at my garage. The engine was flooded and the battery was dead on arrival of the car. Since the car has no doorhandles, the electric door-openers didn't work anymore. Luckily someone had opened the vent window during it's trip. Anyway, I put in a fresh battery and managed to crank the engine long enough to get it started so we didn't have to push it into the garage. Some more pics of the old gal, resting after a very long trip I've already done some photoshopping to see where I think I will be heading with the cars look. Any other suggestions are always welcomed ofcourse. Some chrome restored and Supremes... ...with Spokes;
DAmn that's sweet. I think that Poly can be HEMI-fied with the right heads and pistons... and intake and well you know what I'm saying
Wow, I can't get over how nice it is underneath. Must not have spent much time driving in the bad weather.
Thats not a bad car at all I would leave the paint and pearl white and flake the top. I like the supremes maybe even some lake pipes.....
Well, about the underside.. It it fairly clean under there but there still is a coat of rust everywhere which doesn't show in the picture. The car never looks to have been sprayed with undercoating on the floorboards it seems. How it survived all that time I dunno. The front inside of the rockerpanels have seen better days though and will have to repaired one day. edit: I hadn't really thought about doing something to the roof yet but that's not a bad idea AA.
you nailed it with the photoshop,either wheels in my opinion,although seein its christmas might as well have two sets.also like the wagon
Wheels make a huge difference. Nice car! Look around underneath for a door popping pull cable. If the door handle shaving was done right, there will be a pull cable for dead battery entry's. If not, add one!
A mighty tasty winged warrior there my friend. What a cool orig. air cleaner on that poly. Always excited to see another cl***ic Mopar being brought back to cool. Good luck with your project. Be aware of this web site for parts support etc. www.forwardlook.com it has an e-bsay link you can click on for 1957 Chrysler and it will constantly show you all 57 Chrysler parts and related merch. for sale. Good luck on that beauty!!~Sololobo~
I remember that car. You'll make it cool. I Sold my 59 Buick 2dr.ht. to a guy in Sweden a few months ago. lots of neat cars are coming your way. Billy
Nice car...definitely flake the roof...very clean underside...congrats on the early Christmas present
I have a nice not-painted front bumper and grille for this car, maybe not perfect but driver quality for sure I would think. Not sure how you'd get it there but I'd sell it to you if you can arrange the shipping. Neat car, will look nice after it's de-80s'd.
There was a car like that(but flat purple) in an issue of Hot Rod years ago. I'd keep the color and flake the top, add some astros with some wide whites on them. Good luck with it and Merry christmas. later shawn
Thanks for the compliments and ideas guys. I've been working on the car today, removing the paint on the driverside window-trim with paintstripper, and also some on the top ledge of the grill. But it looks like it has been sanded all to hell beneath that paint, at least the window gl*** trim is. The copper is showing through the sanded chrome. I dp think I can polish the stainless grill back to a shine though, but I have a feeling the rest of the trim won't be much better unfortunatly and will require a lot of work. Squablow, I'll keep that in mind, thanks. I'm not sure yet what would be the wise thing to do, financially speaking; - finding a good set of bumpers, or just strip the paint of the ones currently on the car and have them rechromed. Either way will cost plenty I guess. Normally I don't care much about the quality of chrome as long as the paint on a car is kinda shabby aswell. But since the paint on this car is good I'm trying to get the chrome to be good aswell. And yeah, a flaked roof it will be then I guess
