Hey I've got that issue near the top of the stack right now in the "library". I didn't realize that was his work, just thought it was a killer poster. LOL
The two Model A's pic is my favorite of all time! I still have a couple of copies of the American Rodder, calenders that were available years ago. Plus all the early American Rodders, which is what got me hooked on hot rods in the 1980's!
nah, how could someone capture the old school biker lifestyle like that if they didn't ride, david mann's paintings are amazing - it's almost like they're alive. when i was a little kid in the 70's and i first saw a david mann painting it made me want to jump on a bike and ride
Wow, this one realy takes me back. I remember thinking how cool that painting was the first time i layed eyes on it. Same still holds true!
I've still got all my old Easyriders from the 70s and 80s, get 'em out every once in a while just to look at the Dave Mann paintings. He was great!
Wow, I didn't realise he was gone. I remember him from reading Easyriders in the 80's. He was one hellava artist. RIP Dave. TopHat
well, that's not entirely true.as far as I know, there was at least one.funny thing is....it's a self portrait.
He did a lot of work in the old American Rodder magazine. They even put out a calender for a few years that featured his Hot Rod art work. Very Cool!
I'm new here, I'm from Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. I'm looking for a picture (large) of Mann's "Ghost Rider". We are fabricating old school style helmets and want to know the actual colors of the rider's bike's tank, to paint the helmet in the same pattern. I googled it, but didn't find any good picture. I know that somebody built that bike, does anyone have good pictures ? Any help ? Thank you very much.
perfect time of year for this thread to come up, my all time favorite painting, it is my background this time of year
Was'nt it valve stems or something like that ? After I saw this ( way back when ) the love I had for bikes just got even deeper,,I likd how alot of his stuff showed the other side of Bikers as creative people ..
My favorite was always the one of the biker kickin' the **** out of his own bike that wouldn't start in front of the bar. All his buddies were laughing at him. You had to look REAL close to see that the fuel valve was OFF!
man, this brings back so much. i had #1 issue thru #10. the original bad boy mag, spider, bandit big armond. i think armond belcher died by issue #12/15 ?. thats why i am the way i am.reading the stories, ******* pics " in the wind",manns poster. on the wall right away. you even had to give up looking at some primo scooter on the back of the poster, but up it went. fellow hoodlums i find it wierd and crazy in some way that me in toronto living this life of how our taste in cars/61 knuckleheads and the big 74 pans and shovels the way we carry ourselves because those storie such as 'the other side of the mountain' and well, damn near every page of that mag and the painted/photograghed pics told us this is the way we live and we know each other from just a look that we are tuned in together in this livestyle. and here we are together talking about our same past/memories. pour out for dave . r.i.p. allright now i will shut down the pulpit. dermott.
I knew Dave in Kansas City in '63. He was riding and painting about it then. He did start the KC chapter of El Forestero, although he was more of a gentle soul than the hard core Foresteros like Tom Fugal, Greycat and particularly Harlan Brower, who was as "real" a 1%er as ever existed. Dave was enough of a biker for those guys to ride with. People now don't have the perspective of having known what the world was like in those days. Those guys were really outlaws, a term that has totally lost any meaning in todays "biker" world. They had the right to wear that 1%er patch and they would rip it off of the colors of any "mis-representin'" poseur. Thanks for the great photos of Dave and Tiny.
Met him at the Columbus OH Easyrider show the year before he died. Got him to sign a print for me---Took time to talk to everyone. Seemed like a nice man. His work lives on.
When I was a kid and hanging out(being babysat)at Eds house,he had original David Mann prints hanging on his walls Hollywood Run,etc! I have one of his prints. It called "The Bikers Horoscope". Did some favors for Darryl Roth and he let me have one. Money couldn't buy it! If you want to see it,i'll post a pic...
