My project for the build-off. '30 Competition Coupe. '30 coupe body, '32 roof...heavy chop, stock height leaned back windshield. '39 hood, narrowed and shortened with another grafted on for the lower half. '32 frame rails, adding material to the sides for a belly pan, model A rear cross member and spring, quick change, '40 front axle w/ spring over. Crank driven blower on the Ardun headed flatty. Very Chrisman/Pierson/So-Cal inspired.
I plan on getting back into some building now that I finally finished my degreel. (Took me 20 years. lol) Here one I finished up this last week. Started a few years ago. Scott
That's cool... I just went to the hobby shop and bought some stuff to start on my build. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the quickie & the Ardun stuff from? I haven't built a model in close to 15 years so I'm outta touch with some of the "newer" available parts.
Thanks guys! The blower stuff is from a Revell Parts Pack. The Chevy motor....had to do a little tweaking on a few things to get it working on the flathead. Also made the intake runners from scratch....but they've got a lot of tweaking left. The Ardun motor is from the Revell '50 Ford custom pickup. It's not perfect....but it's close enough. The quick change center section I think came from an old Orange Crate built-up I had, but I'm not sure. The axle bells, torque tube and bones are all modified from the Revell '31 Sedan/'29 Truck kits.
Oooo that looks great Fidgiter, You beat me to the potvin blown ardun! That's exactly what i had in mind myself. For the build off, I ordered the release of the 50 ford pickup, for the new tooled ardun setup, I'm making my own potvin from the 874897 superchargers i got. Im still unsure of what car to base it on. Here are my wheels Im mastering for it there influenced by the spun aluminum covers for wire wheels. As you can see they are based on a steel wheel. This is only to use the steelie outer rim flange, the "spun" part just drops right in. Tires are Revells 1940 ford -retool. Fidg, the new new release of the 50 ford pickup has a all new retool of the ardun setup, very very close to the replica and miniatures setup! Even has the intake and exhaust manifolds. And the correct shape heads.
Im gonna guess the wheels and caps are from the Revell 1950 Pickup. Not sure about the fronts..I wanna know too! Rear tires look like the AMT 1966 riviera. There actually some of the nicest firestone supremes made!
Wheels and caps are Revell '40. Omega is right about the rear tires. The Riviera tires are as close as I can find to appropriate sized rear tires, without going to resin. The front tires....I have no idea where they came from! Maybe the Orange Crate too? Here's a quickie roadster I built using the Riviera tires on the back.
Wow, Eric that lakes coupe is fantastic. It brought me out of lurker mode. Here is my humble build. It's still in progress, but getting there...
I don't know if you saw in the last post you made on the progress of the Flying Carpet but Bob Harrop lives a couple miles from me and literally about 2 blocks from my sister. I used to work with his wife... Nice guy. He actually has a 65' Coronet in the driveway with the plans of making a clone to his original one along with (from what I hear) alot of the original hemi parts from his car. I've built a few different Flying Carpets and had him autograph the roof of one of them years back. Somewhere I have pic's of his 64' 330 when it was owned by the AF/X collector in Hammonton, NJ(I forget his name). He also had Bob's Ventura SD. On a side note, I may be mistaken but I believe his original 65' AWB car was a single headlight one, not dual as your grille is. I did notice that you built it "before" the stacked injection was added so maybe I'm thinking of it at that stage and your timeframe of the car is correct. Do they make a single headlight grille? I've got shots of it somewhere...
Im starting a Comp Coupe build. I got the brass to scratch build a chassis, found a body, rear wheels/tyres. The fronts Im going to make spoke wheels and use some O rings for tyres. Now tossing up about a motor. Either 354 Caddy or a 421 Pontiac? Leaning to wards the Poncho, less work as its not as badly glue bombed as the Caddy motor, also going to do a crank driven blower. Heres the body, it started off as the bottom half of a 32 5 window coupe, and the top of a 3 window I had in the parts box. The top had to be narrowed quite a lot and V'd at the front to fit the bottom of the 5 window. I stuck this together years ago while waiting for something to dry, never thought I would use it!!
Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that one. Nice Roadster too! Coincidentally, we have a little modellers' build-off going on on the UK NSRA forum - just a few of us, and the base kit must be a '32 3-window! So, yep, I'm doing an old race style Coupe as well: chopped, channeled, 6-carb early Olds...we're not allowed to start building until Jan 1st so just collecting parts for now.
After a longish layoff, I needed a quick build to get they motivation going again. So I figured a simple kit with not many parts in it shoud do the trick. Of course I changed a few things and added a few more, but it only took around six hours work over 3 days to finish.
That T is nice! I love the blue you used, is that a car paint? While digging through boxes of models I found I also have a built uo of the T tub from Linberg. I always wanted a T lowboy tub so Im gonna have fun with it.
I needed an early sixties show car type colour for it and this is the result. It's is my own custom mixture of metallic royal blue and pearl white. The Tub project sounds like fun, I've already got the chopped T coupe body on the table.
