Shop Names

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Shawn F., Dec 21, 2008.

  1. My buddy runs a joint in Ventura called "The Shop" and down the road is a place called "My Garage" - simple and to the point of where you're heading - I'm going to The Shop.
My place was called "Altered Engineering" but I closed it back in January.

Not what you're looking for but there's a dealer near me named Miracle Ford.

Whenever I go by it I think: "If you got a good car here, it's a miracle."

I first started this venture as M.A.R.K.S which stood for Mark's Auto Repairs & Kool Shit. But that changed when I bought out Kerrisdale Speed Center. Now it's M.A.R.& Kerrisdale Speed. I actually like the Kool Shit better

How about "Nut Twisters"? A couple of my friends have suggested and started calling my shop "Chaos Inc.".

I like the basic of the owner's name being in there. I think it says straight forward accountability.

Comming up w/a shop name is a very hard thing to do.

    Mine - Insane Designs.

I still don't know why I settled on that. Never thought the name fit building custom trucks/cars, but never could decide on anything else. Oh well..... that was 15 years ago so a little late to do anything about it now.

there is a motorcycle shop around here called Vicious Cycles. Thought that was cool.
When setting up your business name you might weant to check FIRST with the local govt peeps and make sure it isnt taken already - when I opened my first shop years ago in the early 90's called Custom Classics I found out after I got my TIN # that there were other shops with the same name.

You prolly want to try to get a name that others wouldnt have already- maybe a play on your HAMB user name or something...Good luck

Statistics say, that a one name shop is more likely to do well.
and another little thing that i was told by a long term owner, try to start your name with a or b.This way your on top of the yellow pages.most people dont make it to the bottom of the page when searching for a service.

you also want to make sure its a name people will recognize.

'Cars by Joe'- (or something like that) not so much.....

I didnt care that it would show well in the yellow pages- I dont want people just wandering off the street- but maybe you do or want peopel calling to price shop. Its all how you look at it and what your plans are for the business (and make DAMN sure you set up the business legally)

We chose our current shop name because it was a play on words- if you GOT IT- you are the customer we wanted. If you thought it meant a place to do crappy shit- then we arent the shop for you- means you are waaaayy too serious!

I also heard Precious Metals once for a shop that did metal fab- think thats kinda gay though.

If you do everything , you might also want to think what you will sell to your potential clients- just because you CAN do everything doesnt mean its good enough to sell to someone- just keep that in mind...

Why not just call it THE SHOP?

Just dont use any Ks or Z- I think thats overused

    THE KUSTYMZ SHOPPE lol

And, my brother was always partial to Skull Fucking Customs
