It has grown a lot in the last couple years. They built tons of new houses on cheap land. Dont know how it will handle the current market... would imagine it has been hard hit... most newer IE communities are. Hyfire
I'm in Moreno Valley( about 15 min. from you). You'll be close to redlands and just down the freeway from the casino. Depends on what you into (other than cars).
I spend a little time down there every year when I visit my cousin and a few hot rod guys I have met in Cherry Valley and Beaumont. Used to be nice and quiet but that has changed since all the new housing happened. Watch out for the cops in the main street they are dynamite. Cousin just told me the Catholic school there kids go to just closed down and they are now attending the local public school. This is due to the economic down turn, seems folks dont want to pay the extra fees so most kids got moved and the left over numbers were not enough to keep the school running. If any of you guys would be happy to catch up when I am down next just drop me a PM with a cell/telephone number and I will give you a call when I am over! Thanks, Russ.
There is a guy living in Beaumont called Mike, he is the original from Mike's Early Iron. I remember seeing his adverts or write up's in a couple of very old hot rod magazines. Somebody out there will know the who/what I mean. He is a very knowledgable ford flathead guy and owns some kind of nostaglia drag car which I have seen. Nice guy, he is just off Michigan Ave near the old Cherry Farm in a dead end street.
My mom lives in Hemet...spent a week there during the fires last year...almost went nuts...Temecula is okay...it'll be a lot hotter than Fullerton but less crowded...good luck with your move
I know mike gilbert that lives in cherry valley nice guy but hes retierd but still tinkers with stuff. Billy
Im over here in Yucaipa. Welcome to the land of some hot rods and vintage cars. I do alot of custom applications, custom metal work...etc, etc. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94752 'Flathead' Mike does live in Beaumont. He's a very good personal friend of mine and still builds those flathead mean as ever. He's got a long history with these motors and has a close relationship with the Kennedy Brothers (I believe his shop was next door to them when he was originally in Pomona.) Mike has a Model T roadster, Altered drag car- flathead powered, home built fuel injection (4x2) setup, cool as hell. Added to his collection is a chopped Model T coupe on deuce rails; flathead powered of course that he's working on now, 36 5-window 'round-d-round' car, and a vintage sprint car... There are alot of Ford/car guys in this neck of the woods. When you get out here, come look me up, I could introduce you to some of them. We all have breakfast/coffee together on the weekends. Rain or shine. They are some old school, die hard car junkies w/ parts that you could die for. Ever hear of the Flathead "Wish list" Book...most of those pictures came from the parts owned by these guys. If you drive a chevy...be prepared to park it on the street if your ever invited to come over...
I grew up not far from Beaumont, in Nuevo by Lake Perris. Beaumont has a great little swap meet on the weekends, everything from junk to a rare and cool vintage find. I found a set of pontiac tail lights there once years ago. Get's a little chilly in the winter so be prepared for that. Hemet and Riverside will be close for car stuff, and Palm Springs is a quick trip down the highway. Make sure after you settle in you head East on the 10 out to where the Claude Bell Dinosaurs are and eat at the "Eat In" cafe. Damn good chili burger!!! Damn good everything actually. Good luck and have fun in the I.E.
I've got family down that way, but have yet to come visit them. It's on my list of things to do. One of em was even the Mayor of Beaumont for a spell... Enjoy yourself.!
Ill do that. I need to get my truck running im having a wiring prob. I think i did the wires on the alternater wrong...
Make sure you take him up to Cherry Valley to meet Richard and his brother, now that is a sweet visit. I am sure he will meet them at breakfast any ways. Tell us more about that blown tall T coupe sounds like Ive never seen that around town.
No real reason, except up until recent times it still had that small town america feeling about it and there are some cool hot rod guys around that go back a long way. Some interesting antique stores and a decent junk and newer stuff general swap meet. Cops are red hot now and new housing estates have brought extra $'s into town and the Home Depot and Walmart stuff which is nice but we probably could have stuck with the local NAPA and Ace Hardware which was OK for years.
Geez-Hope you really looked at the place closely before deciding to go. All of the stuff you mentioned is in a lot of places. your choice.
