I have a '34 plymouth that needs to be overdrived. has anyone ever put an O.D. trans in with a stock engine? This is going to be for my teenage son and needs to be anemic,so it will keep the flathead 6 . The other option is a fast ratio rear. Can the trans be changed to a conventional U-joint? Any advice appreciated;but he's got to suffer it a while before a V-8/auto.

I have a 33 Dodge with 49 engine and 53 trans with overdrive. 75 mph on highway is not a problem. 17to19 mpg is okay with a heavy foot and not knowing when the last tune-up was.

Call George Ashe in PA. He is the Mopar flathead and OD guru. His #814-354-2621.

I got mine from him, rebuilt and ready to install. The best upgrade for the flat 6, period!

Gearvendors underdrive/overdrives work well although there a tad expensive.

  7. Have to think I'd put a later flat six in there with it, they didn't change a whole lot up through '59.
