So I have some what of a fetish for these wagons, anyhow bought it in AZ, need some brakework, radiator cleaning and water pump. Clean body, 260, 2 speed, PS and AC. Nice clean ride. Drove out from AZ last Sat morning at 4am got to LA at about noon. One stopped once for not showing my operating permit, too cold to stick to glass. So went in for plates, AAA had some issues and I need to do a VIN verification with CHP, so I found this site http://vinverifiers.com/, Mike help me out on a Sunday, got my plates Monday, nice guy a bit more linent on classic cars. Worth the price vs waiting for a CHP appointment. Lastly I have a few bugs to figure out, I have a battery short or drain someplace, the battery dies have 3 days. Also have a funny shift, but what are Fordomatic 2 speeds for? Will be going clean restomod style with this, and hope to make it my daily. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i120/abe_lugo/Wagon pics 2/DSCN0858.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i120/abe_lugo/Wagon pics 2/DSCN0857.jpg
Nice ride. My wife had one in college back in '70. I found a fresh 271 hp 289 and a C4 for it. Even had a/c. In '72, she traded it in on a Pinto. The dealer gave her $150 for it. We weren't married yet so I yelled at her for letting it go so cheap. The motor was $300 alone.
Found it past Apache Junction in the Boonies,AZ a real nice feller had it, I figure it an actual Ranch Wagon that was used like a ranch wagon, but nice, the interior was a bit riun by the second owners son, I'll bringing that back to stock next year as I find parts. The car is missing the door data plate, that is why they had issues at the AAA DMV. But got that done.
Here is a great source of info about Fairlanes http://www.fairlaneclubofamerica.com/ I 've got a 63' Fairlane 500 I drive daily in Chicago.
I love these mid-size wagons, she has a twin in Gresham,Or thats been sitting for a few years but not for sale at this time. Curious what did you pay for that one?
Nice ride, can't be to many of these old wagons being brought back to life in my opinion. I can't really think of any make early longroof I don't like. Maybe the more of these we get back on the road, the more mini vans will be pushed aside. Gary
Neat car with huge potential. I think a C4 or AOD would be high on my list, along with an upgrade to a six-bolt motor. Having said that, if it still works, no big hurry, huh?
I'm a model builder, and I have always wanted to comvert a 64 Thunderbolt model into a wagon. Couls you possibly post some shots of the interior? In particular, the cargo area and the door panels? I would have to scratchbuild everything in the rear part. Thanks.
Thanks guys, there actually us a c4 and drive shaft in the cargo area. I have about 1800.00 in it right now. I'll be spending some cash to find original door panels and small doo-dads. I joinned the Fairlane club and am part of Woody's Fairlane site also, thanks for the posts, will try to keep a build log on this one.
Super choice for a driver as long as you don't get carried away and make to too nice to where you hate to throw an old transmission in the back.
I bought this Fairlane 500 18 years ago for $475 bucks from an estate. I added the wheels and tires, body and paint are what came with the deal. 260 and a Ford0matic. Got it on the road this summer and have not seen another Fairlane wagon in the Jersey Shore area. Good luck with your new find.
