Talked to the owner of this Nash this morning. Thinking about buying it today and looking for some good ideas. Always liked these little cars and would be alot of fun. Its either this Nash or a 58 Anglia. Or is it a bad idea.
Chop the top OFF (Thunderbird style so you can put it back on), open the fenders up, candy apple red(suede) with matching interior, 351, and a continental kit!
NASH! He, I even owned an Aussy Anglia (100e Prefect) the same as a 58. It was a fun car but the Nash has it ALL over the Anglia for cool. Doc.
gasserize the nash and PM me about the Anglia. I sold a 59 100e two door saloon and kinda miss it. I would gasserize it as well.
The Nash wins, hands down. The later Anglias have never been considered "cool". You can do the Nash either as a custom or a gasser style with lots of options depanding on you skills or wallet.
I had one in the fifties and early sixties; it was a great car; so ugly it was "cute". As teenagers, we used to drag race in the parking lot behind the Red Owl store in town after the store closed. It was a short course, (probably less than 1/8 mile). The Rambler had overdrive, so with the low rear end gears, I beat a lot of flathead Fords' and Chevy sixes. There was also a guy with 340 HP 409 in a '63 Biscayne with a wide ratio 4-speed and 3.08 gears I embarassed the hell out of. Just remember it's a uni-body, and may present some "unique" situations with chassis mods. Looks to be rust free, though, and that's a BIG plus. I'd say go for it as well.
Nash 2 dr hardtop. Never seen that model. I thoiught they only made post models, hell, even the convertible had posts. That thing is way cool! I might open up the wheel wells and bag it. Maybe someone with photoshop can give us a preview. Nice score. Bill
I'm always swimming against the tide so why change now. That is too nice to make a gasser out of it. I'd hot rod it but not with a huge motor and tires hanging out of the side making it not very practical. A V6 or turbo charged 4 cyl with lots off gears to shift could make it a fun toy to play with and still be comfortable and practical. Now everyone will tell you to cut everything but the outer skin away, axe the 1/4 panels for humongous tires and stuff a blown Hemi into it and have to trailer it everywhere it goes.
Keep it completely stock looking and put a badass motor in it . That will surprise a lot of people at stoplights and freeway onramps .
Keep in mind Nash was the epitome of dorkiness back then... you are not going to have a lot of traditional direction in the magazines... So go wild...big bass boat 'flake, candy red, leave the roof the creamy greenish yellow, lowered, kinda big and kinda little wwws, red wheels with wheelcovers (these are Dodge Lancer), narrow bumpers, remove side trim (like my dad did to his dad's Nash via parked dump truck), fill holes... Bright red pleaded vinyl seats, flat bright red everything else inside... AMC 401 just 'cuz...
Nash Airflyte, cool little car, too bad it didn't come with hydro that year, 53 up did though. You might be able to get one in there, with perhaps Poncho V8. Sounds too big, but the Ponchos dumped their exhaust down low. I think that little beast had the steering high like Metropolopitans (GWB at his best) did. Yeah gopher it!

Go with the Nash, and listen to tommy, it's too nice of a car to butcher. A nice healthy turbo V6 Buick, upgraded braking etc... I wouldn't even paint it fora while. I like it.
Agreed with the V6 or I4 powertrain. It isn't much car, it won't take much motor to make it go plenty fast. Plus it won't take half the interior away with a recessed firewall. You'll have a fast, well-balanced car that you can drive all day. Because...
