I'll send my oldest over to borrow your's. ;) Seriously, he's into demo derby and really puts drills, grinders and sawzalls through the ringer. After spending $30 to repair my Craftsman 4-1/2" grinder he screwed up I bought him a $30 Kawasaki off Ebay and locked mine up. Two years later the Kawasaki is still going.

As to the name thing I hope nobody here thinks Craftsman actually makes their own power tools. My 4-1/2" Craftsman grinder was made by Black & Decker or at least by the same outfit that makes Black & Decker and DeWalt. They haven't gone the super ****po cheapie route, YET, but they buy from whichever of the big names will give them the lowest price. I also have a Black & Decker Quantam 4-1/2" grinder and except for the color of the plastic case it is virtually 100% identical to the Craftsman right down to the replacement parts list and the part numbers on it. My Dewalt Biscuit Jointer from the head back is identical to both of those except for a yellow case. It uses the same motor, switch etc. as the two grinders. I used to have a Skil worm drive saw, Sears sold the EXACT same saw under the Craftsman label.

the drills are made by alltrade, we have one at work, I think it's an eighteen volt, complete piece of ****. There was a recall because I think some of the chargers caught fire. They were the neon green drills. I got rid of my Harley drill,it kept leaving oil every where I put it.

Makita- I bought a styrofoam container full of hand tools about 13 yrs ago. There was a beat up makita drill that had been painted black-it still works - blows the doors off my dewalt.

  7. I don't care who you are. That there is funny ****? Straight from the 70's when AMF owned Harley. The dealers kept the box that they were shipped in so they could put it under the bike in the showroom.

Well put it this way you cant get good hand tools anymore that will last. The same way all the wrenchs and sockets are made in India and China now with no warranty on replacement. Like Matco, Mac, Snap-on, Craftsman and many more that are made in the USA.

Also Kawasaki has the biggest rider support program in the states Harley doesnt have anything like that.

But back to the tools. I have a Kawasaki drill and its been drilling for over 2 years and have not had one problem. I think its just like everything else we buy some just have more problems than others.

  12. On topic, I too have recieved a Kawi drill as a gift. It is used for very light duty honey-do list stuff @ home with no issues as of yet. I don't think it would hold up at work all day everyday, but for that price I wouldn't expect it to.

I ***ume you haven't read my profile. Just because they have the riders doesn't mean they have the best bikes. Now that Stewart is with Yamaha I'm betting Kawis will have a harder time of it. I only deal with vintage machines myself and I will continue avoiding them, thank you.

  16. when our company tried to give us foriegn junk, we clamped them down and taped the triggers and after they melted turned them back in as the junk they were. today there are some good foriegn junk out there.
BUT DO THE COUNTRY A FAVOR AND TRY TO BUY AMERICAN MADE AND KEEP AMERICANS WORKING EVEN IF IT COSTS MORE. THE REASON THIS COUNTRY IS IN TROUBLE NOW IS BECAUSE WE ARE ALL TUNED INTO GETTING THE LEAST EXPENSIVE TOOL AND EVERYTHING ELSE.
DON'T HELP SEND MORE JOBS OVERSEAS.

BUY AMERICAN AND KEEP AMERICANS WORKING

is there still a decent cordless drill actually made here? i mean the parts made here, not the parts made in mexico or somewhere where they eat a lot of rice.
I had bought one of the VPX black and decker Lithium drills on sale, I have been working the heck out of it and it's holding up fine. They only made them for a short time, now they sell a ****py looking lithium drill. they went from the orange ****storm drills to a drill that is actually decent, back to another **** drill.

  18. Wish I knew more about motorcycles............then I could buy a good drill.

Made in USA? I've got some Craftsman wrenchs that are stamped "Made in China", although the better ones are stamped "Made in Japan." So much for made in the USA.

yea i don't really have a problem with japanese made tools, they seem to take pride in their work, vs the make them as fast as possible chinese ****. OSG taps and dies are japanese, I have a 1" Uchida mike from there, seem to be very well made. usually their stuff seems to be more expensive then the cheap stuff.

That's funny. I guess you would look kind of silly standing next to a power tool on the side of the road.
