Does anybody know Why or what the significance of the dimpled firewall is ? I just bought a model A cowl and didn't even realize it at first. I was wondering why they were rare and why are they like this?

if it is the dimple that houses the Fuel bowl.. it is a late 31.. I kind of remember some kind of explanation.. if it leaked it dripped on something.. so Ford moved it inboard a bit..

just read that the reason was to move the gas tank drain outside of the car .. instead of inside directly on the bottom of the gas tank..

It's a late 31 fire wall. The gas tank is special to it as well as the part the sediment bowl hooks up to is different as well. Also Henry finally removed the steering column bracket support from the tank to the dash rail. This was a great improvement as most of the 30 early 31 styles all developed leaks in the tank there.

Thanks for the info. The other thing I was wondering, is the top of the cowl/tank the same for all 30/31 model A's?
