picked this truck up last week, not sure what to do yet, want to get the pontiac wagon going again first. Truck has a 235 inline six with a 4 spd ( rock crusher ?? ) tranny. thought it was a pretty cool truck especilly with all the bad ass apache's that have been posted on here. give ya truck fever bad!! dont really want to sell it, but may need some pontiac money too. Found a short bed for it today, may sell the long bed?
Nice truck, maybe a bit too nice. Good long beds are a lot harder to find than short beds as they just made more of them and they didn't generally get worked as hard. Hate to see a nice long bed get chopped up cause you want a short bed. But, it's your truck of course.
I def. wouldnt cut the long bed since I have the short one too. May keep the long bed since ya dont see as many. I thought the color was cool too, and I think I stole the truck, bought it for 1300.00 and it runs and drives, driven it everyday since I bought it.
But, to use the short bed, you will need to cut the frame of the truck I am guessing. That is what I was referring too. I personally prefer the long beds myself. Not trying to tell you what to do or anything. Just my thoughts and my personal bias.
OK I got ya now, I know your not tellin me what to do man, I dont know jack about cars or trucks yet, so I'm open to all suggestions. My wife digs the long bed too so you know that means it will probably stay. ha!
Shit 1300 ill give you double that. J/K nah but seriously? LOL. I got the truck fever real bad too. Seeing some of the Apaches on here will drive you crazy.
I have a long bed 59 fleetside I've had for 30+ years, they grow on you... I also have another one that was wrecked when I got it, I turned it into a short bed extended cab. And my kid has a 59 short bed fleetside, with the 235/4 speed (it's a granny gear, not a rock crusher).
I have always loved the early 50's trucks, then boom I see some of the 58-59's on here and then stumble on this deal, then today I found a 59 short bed fleetside, decent shape, no motor or tranny, with a clear title for 300 bucks, sure as hell makin it hard to sleep. I wanna try and keep one of em, but one has to go for sure. I'll try to get some pics of the other one up tommorrow. ( supposed to pick it up ) so if you are looking for a truck I might have an extra or two. I'd hook a hamb'r up. I love to trade shit too.
Granny Gear? OK? heard someone today ask or say somethin about a rock crusher or some shit. It's all greek to me, but I'm a fast learner. I tell ya the hot rod scene around here sucks and there are great projects stacked all over the place. So much great stuff tucked away in this little city its crazy. Most think its all junk, but I'm learnin different. The wrecking yards around here just started crushing lots of stuff from the 40' and 50's this year because no one buys it.
I just got this 58 Apache not too long ago. I really liked the patina. Still trying to figure out what to do with it.
I got me 2 complete 59's with everything all original on both. Neither ran but they were all complete down to the optional hood ornament on the one I decided to keep. They were both short stepsides without spare tire cutouts and inline 235's. One had a/c, both had radios. I picked em both up for $800 bucks. After I started looking for mine I began to note there are more apaches than I thought here in Texas. I now see them all over CL and such. We plan on doing them up as twins but the one I sold to my buddy is doing bags and a mustang II. I sticking with an original late 50's early 60's rod style truck. I have a 283 and 3 speed out of a 64 impala I plan to slap in it. Trucks are the flavor.
I would snap that up quick if it was up here, I've had a couple 59's, couple 58's, a 57 GMC, my mom had a 59 and my dad had a 57, kinda in my blood..lol
Great truck! I had a '59 Apache long bed with the chrome on the spears on the bed sides. I also had a perfect short bed and was going to convert it but sold it before I did the conversion. I have regretted selling it everyday since.
Someday I am going to find a deal like that!...Awesome find and buy!...I honestly would drive it like that for a good while!
any old TF truck is great. can't say i'm big fan of driving them in stock form anymore unless the trip is under 50 miles.
