Just wondering if anyone from Tacoma recalls cruisin' Highland Hills on Friday and Saturday nights. I had a '61 Chevy Impala convertable (283). I did it from about '66 to '68 and then left for WSU. I recall there were a lot of cute girls and nice cars. If a car full of girls cruised by, one guy would walk in front of the car and the other would jump in the back seat with the girls and try to close the deal. Also Starlight Drive In was big for pickups. I recall at the time the big local car club was California Inc. There was one guy from the club called "California Dave" to whom I will always owe a debt. I was 16 at the time and he would buy you a case of beer for one 6-pack and also arranged for "sloe-gin" which the girls loved back then. Taught me one of life's fundamental lesson that girls are happiest (less *****y) when they are drunk.:)

Grew up in tacoma past when your talking.

I can picture starlight drive-in though, not sure if it still exists or not as I moved away 9 years ago.

Grew up in the Puyallup area. Graduated from Orting H.S. in '64. We cruised Pacific Ave. every Fri. & Sat. night! Most ***uredly the Starlite when it was'nt raining!! ( when was it not:confused:) I had a '40 Ford two door sedan, compe***ion orange, with a 265c.i. sbc, black steelies & wide whites with baby moons. Every cop in Pierce & King County knew me and my little hot rod:D Me and a buddy got stopped off of Pacific Ave. one night, and had to dump a case of beer out into the gutter, and told to get our ***es home and disappear before the cop changed his mind!! Can you imagine that happening today? Jeez we were lucky to live during that time, young dumb & innocent:):):)

The Starlight is still there, but operates as a flee market, I wasn't around in the sixty's but heard a lot of stories, about "cruzing" looking for a race, from guys like Terry Chaplin and **** Page...

Owens Beach In Tacoma, I wasn't old enough to enjoy cruzing the good old days of Tacoma. Puyallup was big and so was 6th ave at times. Pretty much all the anti-cruzing laws have put a end to it.
