Oppose Federal “Cash for Clunkers” Program

Washington lawmakers are drafting a large economic stimulus package to help create jobs and rebuild infrastructure. They want to include a nationwide scrappage program which would give U.S. tax dollars to consumers who turn-in older cars to have them crushed, as a misguided attempt to spur new car sales. The lawmakers need to scrap this idea.

The stimulus package is being drafted right now. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wants to introduce the bill on January 6 and have it approved by Congress by January 20, so that President Obama can sign it into law after he is inaugurated.

    My measage sent:

    Dear Speaker Pelosi,
I oppose the Federal “Cash for Clunkers” Program. I consider this a threat to the automotive aftermarket industry and related businesses that rely on older cars for their livelihood. If this goes through, I foresee it having the same negative impact on U.S. manufacturing that the steel tariff brought to it in the last decade. The auto industry has been "bailed out" please do not strike the knock out blow to the related industries that this patch would inflict.
    Respectfully,
    Daniel Bridges
    Orange, CA.

I did my part and then some,Obama promised to keep jobs here at home when scrap gets sold to foreign nations so they can sell low priced "crap' back to us, it's not helping us here at home to keep Americans working.

i live in CA, and i got something in the mail saying that
"due to growing air quality concerns in ca, if you have a vehicle thats registered, older then 87?, and passes smog, they will pay $650 dollars for you to turn it in but to disregard if vehicle is antique or has historic significance" did anyone else get something like this in the mail the last month or so?

I did you one better, rather than write Speaker Pelosi who doesn't have to count on my vote in two years, I wrote my own congressman, Pete Hoekstra.

You might want to point out that the auto aftermarket suppliers are a multi-billion dollar annual business...and without those old cars, the taxes on sales will be gone and those guys are going to be looking for work...something Obama wants to avoid, after all, he promised to put 3 million people back to work.
