What in the hell is the best method for removing the old rivets out of the frame, got one out somehow, but the other one cut the head off and even heated the ever lovin piss out of it and it still wont come out even with an air hammer and a punch, this ****s balls <!-- / message -->
Grind off the head, drill it with a size about 3/4 dia. of the rivet size, about 1/2 thru, drive it out with a punch in the hole you drilled. When rivets are "set" they swell a lot,,,,,,,,
thanks s****iron i will try that, i'm trying to get as much done to the frame that i can so the bill ain't so much from the shop where it's going
I recently removed the trans crossmember from a 51 chevy car. didn't do the drill a hole through the rivet part. just beat them all out with a big f'ing hammer after grinding the heads and soaking with penetrating oil. some came out fairly quickly, but others were a *****. not sure which way would be quicker but the drill idea sounds like a good one.
You can always try to punch it out before it's drilled, some may move,, the drilling removes the side pressure from swelling.
