I currently have a manual rack and pinion on the Ch***is Engineering Mustang II on my chevy. I have the opportunity to obtain a new power rack for free. I have heard mixed reviews about power vs. manual on MII applications. Anyone have experience with both. Preferences & why? Any feedback appreciated.

    Thanks,

Try it out and let us know.
Seems a lot of early hot rods dont need it and also the wheel base is a little short to be compatible.

I originally had a manual rack in my '35 sedan but an impending shoulder operation forced me to go with a power rack. With the correct matched pump it's been very good, no complaints at all. I'll keep the power rack now.

Chasis engineering is currently working on a power adaption for there manual mustang II front ends. I talked to them about 3-4 months ago and they said they almost had it ready for market. You might want to give them a call.

Oh yeah.. This would probably be important to mention. The reason it came up was because they said current power racks dont really work well at all with their front ends. Thats why the decided to come up with their own and try to work out all the bugs. If I remember right they said it took them about two years to get it to the point of working properly.

you dont say what power rack. the perfered rack is the t bird, quicker ratio and compatable with a chev pump, the must 11 rack is slow and a gm pump needs the pressure regulated to work. ive done these for several years. i dont know what bugs they are talking about.

i've used both.on a heavier car like a 54 ford, the power works better than manual.on a lighter car like my 30 chevy, the power cause over steer like a *****.went to manual and was happy. speedway has a fitting to reduce the pressure or you can take shims out of the pump to reduce it.
