Does anyone have the operating instructions and service parts list for a Van Norman Inserto Valve Seat Cutter. The only type model number found was on the mounting foot"Van Norman Inserto" Patent Pending no. 211 located on slotted clamp to fixture to block. Appreciate any copies of instructions. or even a homemade instruction sheet. Inserto is in its original metal box has all three cutters as listed on chart found affixed within one of three pull out drawers. Needs good cleaning inside and out, open one end full of old grease. looks like everything is there just need user manuals. Please help
Didnt have a Van Norman but I did have a Kwickway for many years. They all work pretty well the same. You use the new valve seat to set the depth of the cut. After that you just run it and turn the knob till it reaches that depth. Got a Picture? Van Norman is very good at supplying mauals BTW. It is Winnona Van Norman nowadays. They have a website. Do you have the pilots too? Don
there are pilots for Model A and flathead V8 and a selection of smaller diameter pilots. The lead screw on the side will only advance the cutter about 3/4 of a turn, is this correct. Sent you a PM with more info will try to post some pictures. Appreciate a response
Here is a set of PIX's of the Van Norman Valve Inserto Seat Cutter. Any operating instructions would be most helpful
Whats yto know just se*** ip with the pilot and try it. use a used haed that is s**** or an junk block . It is pretty basic device. It will run quite slow so feeed it slowly as well. it uses a dril to drive itfrom the side but i am sure you already know that. About an hour or so fooling around will get you want you want. Insert the pilot o in the guide, Dorp the appropriate cutter over the pilot. Boltthe clamping fixture over the pilot. Intall the drivemechanism over the pilot and through the clamping fixture then tighten everything in place. Hook the drill tothe driveshaft on the side and turn it on feeding slowly with the knurled knob on the top. use the new seat to setthe depth so it cant cut any deaper than the seat. paratice on some s**** parts and you will be an expert in a hour or so. it is not identical to my achine but is verysimilar. mine used double tooth cutters and the holding fixture had a clamp on it. Looks like you may have to hold this one with the handle. i willl ask my pal tomorrow he is older than i and is the guy who trained me 40 years ago. Don
Need to deep dive unit, take the units drive head apart. Unit only turns by the drill drive (as noted) go's about three quarters of a turn before mechanism locks up. for the seat depth please explain. Rear large knurled wheel turns independently of the units drive mechanism. The smaller wheel free wheels inside the larger wheel. There is a bar that is used to tightens the pilot, bar has serrated flat teeth aligns to a set screw opening on smaller wheel. But smaller wheel still Free wheels within larger wheel, Does setting the indicator control depth? Appreciate your patients. Checked the Van Norman Forum no response yet, may give the company a call. Seeing it works the same as your model. company should have some instruction lying around.
Yeah it is hard to tell from here since I have not used that model or brand. I will ask my pal tomorrow. I got instruction manuals from Winnoa Van Normam free for my 944S boring bar and my 562 surface grinder. They didnt even charge me although that may have been in error. But you're right. Frist order of the day is to find out why the drive wont turn properly. Van Norman stuff is usually pretty user friendly though. Rather than guess i will ask around and see of my pal has used one, still has the instruction or knows someone who has. Don
really Appreciate your support on this matter, have request in to the van Norman web site. seems like they are on holiday call left voice mail, also posted on the Ford Barn web site, not much action
Hi, I am a new member on this board, but wanted to let you know that i have a van Norman inserto too. I just bought it recently and there is no literature available that i can find. Being that it's from the 30's nobody that i have spoken to has even heard of the tool! However i have figured out how the tool works and am using it successfully after much work. I can probably help you with yours.
