A friend and I went out this morning and took some pics of an old Plymouth 2dr sedan that may be up for cheap. The floor is rotted but all the pieces are with the car. Exterior panels look ok. Going back for a better look as soon as the weather clears up. Owners unsure about price but I'm thinking a few hundred bucks. We guessed it to be a 42, what do you think? Sorry for the poor pics (cell phone don't like snow)
1946 to 1948 - I'm not sufficiently schooled on Plymouths to be able to differentiate or be familiar with the nuances that identify the particular year of that trio. They do take US V8s quite easily, I can attest to that, as "assisting physician" in at least two swaps - one was a 265, the other was an early plymouth V8 with scalloped v/covers - dunno the size - out of a 57 Belvedere I think. dj
1946 to 1948 are very hard to differentiate. The '42 is easier to ID because of the grille, and that doesn't look to be a '42.
Looks like its missing the 3rd Light, middle of the trunk. 47/48. Get it out of the snow and give it a happy home.
I've got a 48 and that sure looks just like it, especially the dash and the steering wheel. Probably a Special Deluxe. Stay Warm from CA Don
id say 1946 thru 1948 looks just like the one my granddad had and Im looking at the pictures dated 1948 right now.good luck
The 46-48 Plymouths are identical for all intents and purposes. All 42-48 Plymouths have the runningboards covered by the doors, this car is missing the sill mouldings which run from front fender to rear fender on all of them. Chrysler Corp. called them P15. There is a Deluxe and a Special Deluxe. Special Deluxe often have, turnsignals, 7-button radios, rather than 5-button and nicer heaters than the Deluxe. The 42s are similar(use the same body and dash) but have a much busier grille, narrower trim, different parking lamps and stoplamp on decklid, and much fancier instruments and interior trim featuring gold and copper colors.
Looks damn similar to my 46'.....I say go for it those cars are tits, and she has a boxed frame!! I believe pre-war plymouths had distinguishing beadrolling on the rear fenders
early 49s look the same as 46 to 48's they didnt change the body right away...also the canadian dodge has a plymouth grille eh
Yup. That's '46-'48 P-15, alright. Check the engine casting numbers like pasadenahotrod said. If it starts with 'P-15' then it's '46-'48. Although, they Did however make a couple '49's in this body style. =Adrian=
I agree with you guys . It's a 1946-1948 , I think 1948. Will make a great hotrod that any good gear head will like ! Parts aren't hard to find . Good Luck with digging the car out !
Drag it down to me pleeeease. I'll even do some upholstery in swap. (see signature) I love the P-15s and yes, some early 1949's were the same body style as Plymouth used up excess inventory during a strike. (If memory serves me)
Was that the chassis and running gear for the Powell Sports Vehicle? Looked a little like the first series IH Scout. You screwed out the taillight and there was a tube for fishing rods or guns. Bill
It's a P-15, so 1946-early 1949. There is a round tag in the middle of the dashboard that probably says Special Deluxe. Looks like you have 1 heater, which is a nice option. Let me know if you're going to convert to 12 volt. I have the Napa part number somewhere for a drop in 12 volt heater blower motor. I have a '47 Special Deluxe Business Coupe and I love it. Make sure you hit http://www.p15-d24.com/ as they have just about everything you need to know about these cars.
Close, but the Canadian Dodge is actually a rebadged Plymouth. Had the Plymouth front fenders but a Dodge grill and badges. The Plymouth front fenders ended before the door while the Dodge fender line extended into the door. Dodge was also slightly larger than the Plymouth. The one Pictured is a 46 to 48 Plymouth. Can't tell the difference just by looking at them there were no external changes other than going from 16 inch wheels to 15 inch wheels midway through the 47 model year. To be certain of the year you will have to look at the body numbers located on the left front door hinge post. This link has a table showing number ranges for the year, body type and build location. http://www.merc583.addr.com/mopar/framesets/referenceframeset.html
Still haven't got back there for another look and a few better pics. Weather turned real nasty and hasn't let up. Will post up some new pics as soon as i can. Thanks for the replies.......
Hope to pick it up if the price is right. Owner is away and car is at a friends place. He says the car is for sale but knows nothing more. We all know how these friend of a friend deals can go, hopefully this one will be ok. Would definitely make a great hot rod project, I like the sloped back on it. Bagged with skirts and maybe a 440.
Looks like a 46-48 P15 they didn't change much those years so the parts are interchangable, the only true way of telling is locating the VIN # (drivers side door jam) then go to http://www.p15-d24.com/ there is a s/n cross reference chart that you can look up the series, gives year and mfg location. It's a good project My 46 can be a daily driver with a little bit more work although it has the original front suspension, steering, and brakes. the rest is all GM drive train. Most of the mechanicals can be found at NAPA, The above web site also gives a good parts cross reference list for current p/n's and where to find them. I'll be cleaning out my shed this spring, I have some SST trim for a P15 I will probably sell along with some OEM glass taillight lenses. and a few other ods and ends. Good luck, Phil
Found this site the other day. Doesn't cover all the year models in question, but is a pretty cool fast reference. I'm not too sharp on a lot of the year/model differences. http://www.cadvision.com/blanchas/ID-Cars/index.html BTW - nice find! Retro
