SCTA-BNI is keeping us stay-at-home types up to date at . . . http://scta-bni.org/ Lots of great pics of cars and bikes in the tech line plus short- and long-course results Someone on the North of 49 team made a licensing pass, probably Mike "Cword." The TARMAC roadster laid down a qualifying pass of 165.068 mph, better than 3 mph faster than the existing record. I'm guessing that they accepted it and went into impound and will make a record run this morning.
Cool stuff!! Haha!! My friends Bob & Judy Sights... These people introduced me to dry lake & landspeed racing a couple years ago. They are volunteers for the SCTA. RULERS!! Last year they even borrowed me their house in Hawthorne when I was on holiday!! The first time I ever went to the USA I went straight from LAX to El Mirage on a Friday night before the meet, I drove up on the lake and drove all the way to the end of it, where George Callaway lives... I stopped with my dusty rental car and Bob & Judy were already there, together with Wink Eller and some more people. I hadn't even opened up my door of the car and Bob came up to me with a cold Budweiser and said: "Hey boy, how are you!? Wanna beer? Where ya from?"... I told 'em I came from Europe to watch the racing... He was completely stoked! Some kid coming all the way from Europe, on his own, to watch these guys race the dry lakes. They hooked me up for the whole weekend and ever since then when I come over, they pick me up at LAX, get me a place to crash, take me to the races, whatever man!! Some of the coolest people I ever met!
Mike, Have you heard how the Tardel McKenzie team is doing? I wish I could have been there. Maybe next year. Thanks, Tim
Anyone seen Jim Jard? Or Ab Fay? They are two Houston Roadster Club members. Jim is racing a black '34 roadster in Modified Roadster (I think) and Ab is racing in Street Roadster (I think). I've been told that Ab's 258ci SBC pulled almost 600hp at 9500rpm on it's last dyno pull! If anyone sees them, post their numbers so we can look them up.
Go to the SCTA-BNI site and look for your pals. BTW, the Tardel-McKenzie roadster (517 -- XF/BFMR) ran 167.873 mph on its record run this morning to set a new record of 166.470 mph! Congratulations, guys!
