Hot Rods Lucky Strike

That is the most interesting and sophisticated rear suspension I've seen without being from an exotic. Awesome look, and the sway bar made me do a double take. Shame to hide that under a body. Your build quality is over the top and I would like to see more of your work.

The unibit touch is an example of the whole package. Once again, I am a FAN!

Thanks guys. We try to stay with the asthetics of a very traditional car, but add things where we can that are totally hidden (and I don't mean A/c or any crap like that) when the car is finished that make it handle better. We're doing a traditional Model A that is lowered only with a dropped axle up front, and dropped spring in the back. Therefore, we used traditional ladder bars, hairpins, lowered springs, etc., because you'll see all of that without much problem. But as you can see, with this car, you can't see any of the rear or frame with the body on it. So why settle for a tire roaster when you can have all the hook you want!

What I like is half the stuff no one will ever see. The thought and time put in to simple things like a trans mount, or the rounded tube used in the frame. Lots of thought and well executed. That car will be prettier underneath than on top!

Hey why didnt you work a supercharger in to those header tubes

Ahh, a supercharger would have been great! But that wasn't in the cards, along with the 325 Poly/Hemi supercharger intake. (Was there ever one?)

i am amazed by this car the quality of workmanship is amazing through out not that it has been said already before. one question you did all those holes in the axle with one bit? wow what company i need one of those i am addicted to drilling holes like that as well. oh and i am not used to seeing added holes in the corners like you did i know it probably would not do it but if you drill too many holes would that compromise the strength of the axle or make it handle differently because of flex?

 

Yep. One bit. The spindle rpm was about 400, WD40 for lubricant, and a steady hand with slow feed on the quill. As for flexability, the additional surface area provided by the holds adds to the strength of the axle. If you look at an aircraft wing minus it's skin, you'll see that there are tons of lighting holes in the superstructure. This serves two functions, 1) to lighten the superstructure and 2) to strengthen it.

 

Those blue and red anodized fittings are being replaced, correct? Other than that, it is a sweet car. I really love it.

Ok guys, I would like you opinions! As you may have read this car (Lucky Strike) is a father/son project. Should I give my son my 29 Sedan pictured below and keep this Lucky Strike for myself or let him have Lucky Strike?

Bob, I think if it was going to be his (and he knows this), then it should stay his. That's a nice '29. We have one the same color in the shop right now. Maybe it will give you some ideas. A change of wheels and tires will give yours a fresh look and you could fall in love all over again.

 

Yea, I know. I was just kidding. He's gonna have a far nicer car than I!!! That's ok. Maybe some day he'll feel sorry for me and give it back! Ha!

It was great to hang out with Bob and Ryan last night. They seemed pretty stoked on the car. They're taking back to OH today.

 

so where are the final send off pictures??? I've been waiting to see how it turned out!!!!
