A few of us are thinking about running baffeled zoomies. How loud are these things, too much for extended cruise or is the noise directed up and away. Thanks, oj

I'm middle aged (barely) they were loud when I was young and they'll be loud when I'm deaf. And they blow all the shit off the walls of your garage when you start it.

  5. you'll be saying what alot after along drive but they sound cool as shit at 100 miles an hour down the highway

I know about blowing the shit off the walls as my race car has funny car headers, it'll also lift a skirt if you time it just right.
A buddy has lake pipes with baffeles and angled turn-outs and he says they're too much. But they kinda dump right at the driver.

I have a set on a 331 hemi in my coupe. No baffles and they aim to the ground...Loud.

Cool as hell around town. I drove them on a 100+ mile trip, and my ears would ring a little for a few minutes afterwards, but no big deal.

I have straight out ones/no baffles on my flathead in my truck. Loud, but it has that "low tone" flathead sound, and it's not too bad on longer trips.

Here is the set I run on my blown 392 Chrysler in my 32 coupe. Made a set of baffles for them that slide down in each pipe and lock with a bolt. Just running down the road cruising it is not obnoxiously loud. Stand on the gas pedal and it gets LOUD AS HELL:D If going on a long trip I think using ear plugs would be a good idea. As far as getting in trouble with "the man" just be aware if and when you stand on it that you will not be startling anyone close by.

I ran zoomies on my sedan all summer long without baffles. Sounded great. You just got to be careful when the mans around or you'll end up with a ticket. I didn't have any problem and I'm 46 and love getting on it and making alot of noise.

Sound great at idle. A lot of folks hate them @ 70 mph for an extended period of time. Give 'em a try....if you're used to dragstrip noise, you'll probably like baffled zoomies.

...I will always coast by a cop, and they return to a burbling idle. If the cop is next to me, I drive real easy, until he moves on.

So far the feedback seems positive. On one vehicle there isn't an issue where we can bolt them up and change later if too loud. On the other car it is in design stage soon to begin chassis fabr and it sits kinda low and if i need to allow room for exhaust and mufflers i should know it now. There is space issues because of the chop top, side pipes are out because there isn't any rocker panel.
Keep the feedback coming, need all the help i can get, thanks oj

  15. proper Zoomies tend to be VERY LOUD, to the point of causing actual pain, when hooked up to a motor with a hot cam and injection.
I run longer pipes which are still open and that seems to reduce the noise down to a bearable level while still keeping the bark pleasing.
If you can make the pipes more than four foot long each the sound level seems to drop off, still loud, but not painfull.

My 30 Coupe has VW stinger baffles in the Lake Headers. Ran them open for about 30 minutes and couldn't stand it. The stinger Baffles cut out a lot of the noise mainly when running down the road. Still pretty loud at idle. Come by and I'll let you hear for yourself.

  17. I had baffled zoomies for about 3 months. They were ok and didn't get old until the trip got longer than an hour. Then it was pretty rough. I have exhaust with 12" glass packs now and like it better.

Ken Gupton had dragster style pipes on his “Hell Rod” and he said he got too many exhaust fumes inside. I have funny car style on mine with permanant baffles and have no problem with fumes. When I run with just the baffles it’s pretty loud. For around town and trips I put supertrapps on top.

When you're older and can't hear your own kids or grandkids talking to you, you'll think about being young and stupid alot.

had a sbc with them loud as hell, the neighbors stopped waving when I drove by. Coupe in pic did not have baffels in headers, dam hotrod hooligans

  24. FUCK YOU BLUTO!!!! :D What if they were tough guy Harley baffles? is that less gay? They were loud enough gay or not with baffles. I lost one baffle out of those zoomies when I hammered it one time, and with just one missing it was ridiculous on the street.

ding ding ding... or I should say, ring ring ring

if you run zoomies you are going to want hearing protection while operating the car.

I love the look and sound of my zoomies. But they would literally hurt my ears when I got on it. I built 8" baffles and they quieted down to where they are tolerable. As far as the man, i have had no problems, even when they were next to me. Just keep it at a low idle when you see them. The biggest problem is any and all conversations end when you are driving... or it could be a good thing when your girl is with you

Forget the noise, I had them ... a long traffic light and the right wind = carbon monoxide in the cab, brings tears to my eyes. I constructed some longer pipes
