hey ,,,JIM A,,since you were SO FUCKIN BITCHIN back in the 90's how about posting some pictures of ALL the COOL stuff YOU were building back then,,,,,, haha,,, my dad was doing shit too back in the 60's 70's 80's & 90's and now too,,but,,,i wont be riding on his coat tails,,,,i'm happy doing my own lil shit in my garage,,,
Post #86 in this topic- built in my garage in 1990- by myself, body work & paint by myself (my dad didn't touch that car- even though I grew up helping on his cars- thanks Dad for a great education). I cleaned every separately collected old cast off piece of junk and screwed it together into that jalopy. Don't claim it to be the shit, just my pile when that style was definitely NOT mainstream. And no, I wasn't "bitchin"- I was an outcast until I met Aaron from the Choppers (then the Chislers) and then the rest of the guys. When I had to sell that Cabriolet body Keith Weesner brought over a '29 Roadster body and dropped it on and that chassis to become his roadster. Yeah, I'm an "Ol school 90s RULER"! Yes, I AM joking!
Don't worry, we're in business in a big way. The ads are not the only source of income. It's the brightest light we have in the crappy economy we're in. -jp
I will always be indebted to the mag for finding the history of my car. I had looked at every old pic I could find and only found one previously. My car was in the mag as the Bob Perry roadster.
Humble pie... have really enjoyed the last 2 issues. Will there be a possibility of ongoing subscription in the near future? I keep forgetting to buy it when it's out. Bruce's idea is good though.
With the archive's as DEEP as Peterson's had, it can be a slayer. Writer's and modern photog's to round out the mix.
This is not about the cars they feature in HRD that I don't like, Its that the girls have no tattoos, and I like girls with tattoos. If they are gonna have a betty draped across a car I want big tits and Tattoos!!!!!!
I like any magazine with hot rods, and old bikes, i dont let the name scare me away. But i think rodders journal, hot rod deluxe, traditional rod and culture illustrated, and hop up have the market cornered.
i think that mag is okay i personally like rodders journal and Garage but that's me i have bought alot of them over the years. the problem with some of the mags is they lack info when i buy a mag i want to be educated not so much entertained.
Thats because you have no style ! But thats ok , leaves more for the rest of us. My worst experience is showing up at the newsstand and getting the last copy which has been manhandled to hell, BUT , at least I get a copy, I only worry about missing an issue , because I don't hang around the mag racks much ! Excellent product, sign me up for the first sub !
LOL, nice comeback! How many issues have been printed up till now? I looking to buy a couple to form my own a-hole, erhm, opinion. Also, I tried looking for it for a while and found a band and CKDeluxe, but HRD needs a website badly though. So folks can get some info about the mag.
HRD rules. Pretty much from the get go I've liked everything in it. I think it's getting better and defining it's personality too.
So i have read thought this whole post and no one is looking at it from the point that if Hot Rod Deluxe plays their cards right they could put oldschool rods and ck deluxe out of business and here is why. 1. Peterson pub has all the history of hot rodding at their fingertips in a file room with never seen photos. 2. Petersen pub has complete car features that have never been published(guessing) 3. how about this petersen pub taking the first issue of hot rod and and take one feature car and from that issue and put it into the mag along with cars of today. 4. how about taking drag race or Bonneville coverage from the original mags and put that in today's mag with shows or racing of today. And finally all you need to buy this mag just to show that their is market for this or it will die and won't be around again. Remember one day this type of hot rodding will go back underground and all that will be left is what we have now. just me two cents. Mine and metalshapes cars were in ck deluxe before it was runined by osr and was a great mag up till then. I can tell you now that I would not let them do a feature on my car now for osr or ck deluxe. Osr and ckd are about the scene end of this which is cool if that is what you want your coverage to be about. Me, I want just what Hot Rod Deluxe is doing now and will do all I can to support it till they fold or turn into osr, ckd then I am out. And now since I just gave the greatest idea's and battle plan for world domination all I ask is a feature on my car if you want. Yes shameless, but well worth it.
AMEN! There's tonza rags with the cars and news of today. But no one can rival their archives. Just my 2 cents.
I think the mag is so so. Some good articles and features. In my opinion, I like Ol Skool Rodz, Car Kulture Delux and Rod and Kulture. I think HotRod is jumping on the bandwagon a little too late. thats just my opinion though. Take it for what its worth. Brian
Oh Crap! I just spit up laughing as I had a Car in that rag in 1983 and was too embarrased to tell anyone! Ha Ha LOL.............
hot rod deluxe was there first. There would be no car kkulture deluxe, or old skool rodzzzzz without it. THEY STARTED THE BAND WAGON!!!!
The Thread is about Peterson Publishing's Hot Rod Deluxe. first printed in 99. the folded after lack of sales. It's back now follwing the new trend" The magazine Hot Rod Deluxe in the pictures posted above became Car Kulture Deluxe. They ended up under Koolhouse Publishing and went down the crapper... Ol Skool Roz and Car Kulture Deluxe now shamelessly advertise themselves in their own magazines. The are almost as many photos of editors Geno and Alan as there are of cars. Bo Huff (no disrepect to Bo intended) worked on both Alan and Geno's cars. I think that has something to do with Bo constantly being talked about in many articles. I think Bo is a great builder. Just think he is getting tons of advertising by working on their cars and that is why. The quality of both CKD and OSR continue to decline. There was the same problems with the Horse while Geno was running it. Now the Horse is run by Hammer and Englishman it is a much better magazine and continues to improve. prefer to read Triditional Rod & Kulture... I do enjoy reading Peterson's HRD. HRD is far better than OSR and CKD in my opinion...
nobody can beat the archives of Hot Rod magazine. They covered about everything from 1948 to the present.
