40 woodie rear fenders are "woodie only" and as such.. are expensive.. inner fenders are obviously "special" as well, and more expensive..

I did locate a pair, of inners, but couldn't bring myself to spend the money to buy them..

yesterday I decided to try a new approach..

take one junk driver side rear 40 ford coupe / sedan etc. rear fender..

TRIM it, and use it on the passenger side, as the INNER FENDER
    [IMG]

repeat on the driver side with a passenger rear fender and create the driver side inner wheel house..

tomorrow I'll fabricate the "filler panels" and, I should end up with something amazingly similar to the stock set up..

    with considerably less expense.
I'll add to this post when this part of the project is DONE..

You got to love it when a plan comes together. I like your way of thinking Jeff. I really can't wait to see more on this car. I love these things. Keep up the great work my friend.

    looks can fool you..

I had to grind 1/4 inch of bondo off the red fender to get the plasma to STRIKE AN ARC!

the only good part of the red fender.. is the part that I used!

    the other fender.

it was nicer.. but rough at the bottom as well..

  7. nice...

I love when you can do the "right side on the left, only flipped" or any other inside out, upside down engineering!
    Looks great!

Worked my tail off tuesday to finish.

Given that a stock inner fender (ONE) is on ebay for 2500! :-(

i figure I just saved about $5000! woo hoo!!

    Holiday BLUE pattern paper!

Very nice execution of a great idea. I did the same thing once, only without the craftsmanship, on my younger brothers '37 Buick Century sedan. The wheel houses were rusty, but he had gotten a pair of extra fenders. We did what you did, but being in high school, and posessing a torch, we just brazed 'em in. Worked tho, and 30 years later, the car is still around.

no one is happier than me!

the chassis (thanks to skidmarks) is DONE,

the rear (which came from johnnybbad) is ready for gear oil

the motor is in (thanks to mike 47) (and needs only an intake and carb..)

    the front suspension is complete..

I have a radiator thanks to GMCBUBBA

    Fenders courtesy of kbcookout

cowl bottom from mazdaslam, wheels from clark, and numerous other parts thanks to the hamb..

this car is a testament to what comes together here on the hamb every day..

heading out to finish welding the floor after lunch..

pretty soon... it all comes apart.. for.. PAINT...

yikes! my countdown to goodguys columbus nationals is 189 days.. MAYBE....

  20. looks great. Maybe you should make another set to sell, pick up that $5k to pay for paint.

trick panel under the rear seat area.. will allow me to access (from the top side) to the drive shaft, rear air springs etc.

As a result, servicing these components can be completed from "the top side" and "inside the car!. I may never need to crawl under again!

the front floor panels were made by paul bradley.. they were so cheap i almost couldn't make them myself.. (however) if i were to do it again I would probably go a heavier gauge and do away with the ribs all together

    thanks andy..

hope to see you in the spring.
