"Z"ed Frame Body Cut

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 345 DeSoto, Jan 1, 2009.

  1. On a "Z"ed '32 frame, with a Ford 9" rear, how far above the axle housing would I need to cut the wheel well for adequate clearance?...

It's would depend on the amount of Z the frame has, and the type of suspension. Do you have that nailed down yet?

  3. Actually, no matter how much Z I'd have, the CLERENCE from wherever the axle was to the top of the wheel well cut woud be the same. What would determine how far UP I'd need to cut into the wheel well would be determined by the Z. But however much that winds up to be, the axle to top of the clearence cut SHOULD be the same. Rear suspension will be a spring-behind-axle with the Stock rear crossmember/spring. The spring mount welded to the appropriate Stock position on the 9" tubes...

Well if all your looking for is the CLERENCE,mines about 3" from the top of the axle housing to the bottom of the well.

    Hope this helps

I like to have the body 1" more than the range of the suspension.

If the suspension will allow the axle to move up 3". I like to have 4" to make up for articulation.

But it really depends on the style of suspension. Coil-overs will have alot less travel than the stock style.
