I know I will probably get a lot of hate mail over this but..... I have a chance to swap my Weld Alumastars(which I have absolutley no use for since after my first visit to this board, I was infected....dang you guys and your traditional rods, LOL, its like a sickness you cant cure and now I have it!!!) for either a driver 47 dodge 2dr sedan pretty much orig, but needs paint and interior(and he already threw primer on it, dang it), or a Tall T 2dr sedan body(and I mean body, cowl, doors 1/4s, and tail panel)....if this were an "A" it would be a NO Brainer as thats what I want....I think the T is closer to what Im after(but its still not an A), but I think I could cherry up the 47 and just have a nice driver out of it while Im looking for my A, so what do you guys think... OR
I'd take the Dodge personally. Put some seat covers on it and make it all one color. Come springtime there's always tons of people looking for a cheap driver. You could put it up for sale or trade for Model A body. The T body is cool but if it's not what you really want to build it's probably not worth trading for.
A running Dodge is worth more than the shell. Which one would net you the most money with the least work? If I'm not emotionally invested in something, that is how I try to justify it. That being said, I'd try to snag that T for a few bucks too, no sense letting good iron p*** you by!
Just dont get one because you can. I would wait untill you can find an A. The whole time your working on that dodge or T your going to wish it was an A. Might as well put the time and money into something you really want. IMHO
do the dodge you will have more fun with it as it is a driver already. imo its a no brainer here mopar or nopar. buy it paint it drive the wheels off in the mean time look for that a. 1 driver/1 project is better than 2 projects at the same time.. easier on the wallet
A driver for a set of wheels...that's a no-brainer... The "T" is not an A...hold out for what you want and drive the wheels off the Dodge in the meantime...!!! R-
The Dodge is the better of the two options. Why? 1. Because you'll have a driver to enjoy while you look around for the Model A you really want. 2. Because it is a 2-door sedan(Coach), easier to sell and more desirable than a 4door sedan. 3. Because Mopar 2-door sedans are likely more rare than Coupes. Chrysler just seemed to have a prejudice against a sedan with less than 4 doors. I've not seen production figures but have been told that in some years 2-door sedan production was in the 100s rather than thousands. 4. Because you really want a Model A and seem to have an appreciation for having a regular driver arounf while you build the "dream machine".
The T doors are worth more than the Dodge or the wheels. And a T is relatively rare compared to an A. I'd build a T. Do you really need a driver car? And it's not even that until it gets paint and interior.
get the dodge paint it green and have a froggy cruiser to ride around in while you save for a builder
Actual production for the Dodge from 46 through 48 was as follows 4 Door, 7 p***enger - 3,698 Convertible - 9,500 Business Coupe - 27,600 2 Door - 81,399 Club Coupe - 103,800 4 Door - 361,711 I agree that the Dodge is a better deal.
take the dodge and drive it while you look for your A body.if you take the T and always dwell on the fact that its not an a you'll loose interest and never finish it.just my 2 cent
Picking up the Dodge tommorrow(weather permitting(............and worked a deal out to get the T as well....will post pics soon
Yea, I did get a little sidetracked....but its hard to p*** up tin when its staring ya in the face.....I always seem to settle and sell and use the profit to get me closer to my goal, so far its worked....and I enjoye having another old driver or project to work on till the right one comes along.... Now, anyone close by that can help me whack a few inches outta the roof of the Mopar????? *************UPDATE***************** Just got home. The Dodge is super straight and solid! It runs like a swiss watch, and the guy said he was told the engine had been rebuilt, looks awful clean. The Interior is ragged. Its actuall a neat little car, lol. Im thinking the way to go is the low and slow Cruiser look, what do you guys think?? First on the agenda, fix the broken front brake line, and find and install a fuel tank. Sooooo, now my fellow HAMBers, I need some help locating some parts: 1)Front and rear bumpers and brackets(I hear ribbed bumpers look good on these, 37 DeSoto/49 Plymouth ??) 2)Gas Tank(may have that covered found one on the net) 3)if I decide to keep the trim on it, the pieces that go on the cowl, between the hood and door, are missing 4)a pair of dummy spots 5)lake pipes, rockers are approximately 82" 6)outside sun visor 7)fender skirts And hey if someone wants to lend a hand(and a welder) Id love to whack about 3"s outta the top, french the head lights, and change the grille up a somehow as for the T: The "T" I was to be getting was sold before I got there, but I did make a deal on the other parts, I got a 26 Cowl, 2 doors(for the same side, didnt realize it till I got home), a pair of running boards, a pair of rear fenders, the upper rear panel(window), 2 partial sedan corners, and some misc odd shaped tin, he threw in a chopped a grille shell, and an A steering box. Not sure what to do with it yet, its currently taking up residence on my "A" frame........
