I guess it is the economy or just more folks turning to dope and such but some clown tried real hard to get into my shop the other night.

Didn't make it in but tore up some stuff that took most of yesterday to fix.

Broke out one of the small windows in one of the overhead doors and beat the hell out of the little lock on the slide bar that keeps the door down.

Went to the other overhead door and took the slide bar ***embly completely out of the door again by beating the hell out of it, this time from a hole punched in from the outside with a pipe or bar or something.

Then went to the walk in door, cleaned off the padlock but could not get past the deadbolt. Dang sure couldn't kick the door in because my Bro built it out of 2" angle and 2x12's. Sort of what you might find on a castle or bunker.

All this on top of a hill, on a freeway, with lights burning.

The main reason they could not get the overhead doors open was the extra locks on the opposite side that block the roller wheels from being able to move up, just drilled the guide rails and put the padlocks in place.

Guess I am going to have to upgrade a little more. Anybody use those cell phone based alarm systems or any good tips??

    Thanks, K

I hate thieves, really glad they didnt get in. I dont know much about the cell phone type alarms, except that we were in a group with someone who said a system like that saved him. He caught the guys in the act. His worked, it is certainly worth looking at.

Here's an idea. Photo eye with a off-on switch(you turn off when you're there, on when you're not) coupled with a huge alarm/flashing lights/siren and speaker announcing whatever you have taped. Could be done for a couple of hundred bucks.

Yep, in these trying times the poor old meth heds are looking high and low for victims! We put motion lights around and every window has "jail" bars, also my lock shop buddies reminded me to put inside/outside deadbolts on as well as padlocks on the C-channel of the overheads, and three big *** dogs with at***ude! And if were lucky enough to catch them, well, they might just have an "industrial" accident!

It's tough all over. I need to up my security too. The only good thing is the stuff they would steal can be replaced. The other ''junk'' (car parts, old signs, gas pumps, etc.) they would probably leave. If the get near mine, i hope there wearing body armour.

Ive heard that those cell phone alarms work really good but I don't know much about how they work. It is getting pretty ****ty when we can't protect our stuff. When I lived down in DFW and worked at a parts store, I got robbed at gun point twice and robbed after we all went home 4 times and this was all in one month! I think we should form a mob!

  16. There have been robbers and burglers since the beginning of time. Doubt it has much to do with anything but human nature. Bet the Indians even blamed teepee robbers on peyote use.

Not sure how different things are in the U.S. to the U.K. but I have a dialing alarm over here. It dials my cellphone in the event of a break in and in fact can dial up to 3 numbers. It is a self fit system by a reputable company called Yale. We've tested it pretty well and it works fine.
There must be a similair system over there surely? This one retails at about $300 so not expensive.

A cop friend of mine told me that light and noise are a burglar's worst enemies. Get motion sensors inside the garage (several, with at least one hidden) and a vibrations sensor on the latches and attach them to bright floods, rotating beacons and a screaming alarm. The red hot second some useless ***hole tries to break in, the whole world will light up and start wailing. Guarantee, he'll be beatin' feet to get the hell outta there. If not, shoot him in the knees with the afore-mentioned 00 Buckshot.

cellphone alarms work very well, I got mine as an extension to my burglar alarm with wireless motion and sound sensors. Lights and a LOUD horn on the outside, kept the burglars at bay for me.

Down here they are real sneaky about it, for roll up doors they back a truck up to the door until the bumper touches the door, then they slowly press up against it until it pops off the tracks. for the most art real quiet. then drive the truck the rest of the way in.

the only way to stop them is to put removable bollards on the other side of the door so it can't pop off the tracks.

Cameras, Hidden so they don't steal them. Ford PU, won't get high centered when you run over them. Good insurance to cover accidental death in case they don't survive Ford PU.

My shop is attached to my house, so the alarm will go off in my bedroom. My plan is to have the wife hold the gun on him while I strap him down on the Bridgeport, then I'm going to give him a long lesson on how to use the fly cutter.
