Hey guys, I haven't posted anything here in a while (I don't think I really did much when I first started visiting here since this is my 3rd post). Anyway, I've been doing a lot of reading and drooling over some of the rides everyone has been posting here and decided it's time I start paying more attention to this board and start looking for a project. I wanted to reintroduce my self here and share some pics of some of my previous rides that got me where I am today. I realize they may be a little newer than some of you guys prefer, but they got me started on my love of all things old. Here's some of my first truck, a 1976 Ford F-100. It had a 302 with a c-4 and a 9" rear. It was a great first vehicle for a kid to learn on (it was a Ford so I got to learn all about mechanics working on it all the time...lol) Next was a 1966 Dodge Coronet 440 with a 2 barrel 318 wide block and a 3 on the tree. Another that I should have kept forever. This was my moms 76 Corvette, but I was the only one who drove it and I did all of the work that needed to be done to it, so I considered it mine. This was my best friends 79 Trans Am. I spent more time in this car in high school than I did in school itself. Oh the fun times we had terrorizing the city in this 455 powered beast. If I recall it had a race prepped TH-350 and 3.73 gears in the back. And I think this is my favorite of all of my trucks. 1969 Chevy C-10. I put a new 350 in her and she had a 4 speed backing it up. Had Flowmasters with turndowns under the cab. Drove this truck from Oregon to Florida in the summer of 2006 and made the mistake of driving through New Mexico with no a/c. She made it with only a few issues. Damn I miss that truck. Hope you enjoy, and I look forward to reading all of the discussions here and learning more myself. Ron
Ron, You are well on track. We all grow up with or into this affair with old cars/trucks and especially rods. And, I encourage you to keep looking for that just right project for you - the one that gets into your head and you find yourself just looking forward to every moment you can spend bringing it to life. I know for me it's not the finished product as much as it is the project of putting it together that I love the most! Don't expect to know everything before you start-the learning is alot of fun, too. Don't be afraid to ask questions and for advice. Great folks on here more than willing to help! Rick
Here is a couple of pic's of my grandparents and their shop truck in front of there Upholstery shop in Germany and my dads old woody.
Rick, thanks for the response. I appreciate the encouragement you offer and it's nice to know someone read my post and took from it the point I was trying to make. My previous rides may not be the kind that interests everyone on this board, but they were my building blocks to what I want to start building. The only car I've built from the ground up was a Cobra kit car in high school as a school project. Now I'm wanting to find something I can build with my kids (even though they might be a little young right now to offer any true help being 2 and 4 years old, but you're never too young to learn. Ron
Maybe these pics will interest a few people: Here's a pic of my dad and my grandfather in front of grandpas old GMC Dad and his cousin on Great Grandpas Harley Grandpas old Riss truck Here's a pic of my uncle next to Blue Max back in the late 70's or early 80's. Ron
Yeah, I had just put the new motor in the night before and one of my friends decided we should get a pic of me appering to work on it. That was in Florida where you could work barefoot and not worry about your feet getting cold...lol Ron
Ah the I remember having cars similar to those a while ago. Every one has to get a start in the addiction. Dont ever let the "Traditional **** heads" ruff you up cause of what you started with.
Yeah I started with a 79' Corvette and a 64' VW when I was learning how to wrench in my early teens.. you gotta start somewhere.. not everyone has a pre 64' hotrod in their backyard and an old timer to show them whats up, the important thing is that your here and you want to learn, so sit back, grab a drink and get ready to lose hours of your life to this site.. you're just starting the ride..
