I'm new here posting but have been looking in for a while. I know a guy that inherited a car collection from his wealthy father and I am very interested in trying to buy at least one of his cars, possibly two. One is a 36 Ford sedan delivery and the other is a 37 ford sedan delivery. Both were redone in about 1970 with sbc, paint, tuck and roll and the usual 1970 style stuff. Both cars were very nice to began with and have pretty much been in storage since about 1980 and maintained with regular upkeep but driven very little. I saw the cars about 10 years ago and have contacted the guy about buying them but I haven't seen them yet in their current state. I have done as much research as i can to find a price spread but there is very little info available because the deliverys for sale now are are new builds and very custom so those prices don't apply and the other end is rusted out hulks so those prices don't apply. The sedan delivey is fairly rare but not very desireable on the list of what people want. I see 2dr sedans for sale that are compreable to these cars {1970's style} for sale in the 18 to 20 k range and I am thinking that if I add 10% for its rareity I might be in the ballpark. I know I need to see the cars first but when I do I want to be armed with a real value range so I don't look like an idiot. If I can make a deal I might try to buy both of them and keep the one I like best. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Sorry no pictures. So, what do you think? JMPRO
as ALWAYS the only way to determine value is by what one person will pay and what the other will accept. EVERY cars value is different
I think the sedan delivery should stand up to the pricing of the 2 door sedans or surp*** it. Adding 10% sounds like a good margin. And you might be suprised how many people would like to have a sedan delivery, myself included...ghost
ya, you get a car and a hauler all in one,if they are as you described, id say 25g each ,alot of em got worked to death so the numbers are low
Both of these cars grew up in So.Cal, one was actually a fire captions car in 1936. I am going to call the guy and see if I can get pics of the cars. The guy did not put the cars up for sale and has no need to sell them so I am on the short end of the stick when it comes to negotiating and as much as I fret about it he may have a price in mind that just won't work for me. I have a SUV now that needs to be replaced that I use for my business but would much rather get something like one of these to replace it. JMPRO
your at a complete disadvantage, 1) the cars were inherited so sentamental value is usually high. 2) the guy doesn't need the money. 3) you better want them badly as it sounds like your gonna pay whatever he wants for them regaurdless of current market value. good luck!
See if you can hold off until the next Barret-Jackson auction. You'll get a feel for how much the price of old cars has come down due to the recession. The last B-J yieled prices as much as 25% less compared to the previous one. It's a buyers market (for a change) on some of this stuff. Like someone said, your at a disadvantage when he doesn't need to sell. Frank
One rod mag did a 36 delivery story 30 years ago. It was about a free 36 DELUXE abandoned in the desert. The story said only a few hundered were deluxe? Anyways, there was a 36 delivery on ebay 6 months ago, primer, same owner for many years, running drivable, mild rod. Buy it Now was 15k which I almost took just for resale. 2 fools kept bidding and knocked out the BIN price when the reserve was met. I think it was up to 16-17 with a few days to go when I last saw it. 20 to 22 would have been within reason. IMO....and you are looking at a better one, I'd bet
That was a great first post, welcome to the HAMB. Without reading any other replies I was thinking in the $25,000 price range, without any photos or first hand inspection. Personally I like the '37's better, but that could change once we see photos.
http://www.rmauctions.com/CarDetails.cfm?SaleCode=DM06&CarID=2174&Currency= I saw this '37 Sedan Delivery when it was first shown, really nice restoration, the R&M auction price of $170,500. is on the high end IMO, hope the seller doesn't find this bit of info.
