He probably sold it for more. In this economy, be glad you got your money back and THANK HIM for the 100.

Sellers remorse is worse than buyers remorse. IMHO

has happened twice to me and thats how i learned the procedure on buying a car. check out car, check out ***le,hand over money, load car quick and leave! never buy anything sight unseen unless it described as "junk" and i'm paying pennies on the dollar for it.

You never know why people might change their minds about things but he seems like a real stand up guy to give you $100 for your troubles. He obviously felt bad for backing out of the deal. I always feel bad when a deal doesn't happen but I try to look at it as it wasn't meant to be and I will find something better. Be happy you are not having to fight with him to get your money back.

I would rather have someone back out and give up a hundred bucks for your time than deal with the wishy-washy people that kinda, might want to sell but have to check with so-and-so and then maybe.....they keep you waitin on a car they dont want to sell and the whole time others are slippin through your fingers.

I know its their car to sell,....but either it is or it isnt.

I came across a 50 Merc about 10 - 11 years ago. It was beautiful it had a complete restoration, switched over to 12 volts. I told the guy if he ever wanted to sell it let me know. The guy had an auto store that was being hurt by another cheaper store. He called me and asked if I still wanted it. I went on,and on about how nice his car was, and I had seen them for more money. We had agreed on $20,000 the next day he called me to say he thought he would keep it.

Moral do not get too excited.

I hate to admit it, but I did it once. Needed money, told someone I was thinking about selling a certain vehicle. That guy told someone who came to look at it. He decided he wanted it but hadn't brought any money with him, was coming back in a week. Over that week I drove the vehicle to 'say goodbye'. Decided that it was going to break my heart to sell it, called him the night before he was coming to get it that it was off the market and apologized for being a ****. Promised to let him know if it was ever for sale again. I still have it, and still regret offering it prematurely.

Funny though, when he was looking at it the price was too high, once I decided not to sell it, the price didn't matter any more.

If he had given me the money the day he came to look at it, it would have been his car without question. I've learned to be decisive when buying.

    <style></style>I had this happen:

I saw an ad for a 34 Chevy for sale. I call the guy up and ask about it. He said it had been restored in the early 70's and had been sitting in his car port since the early 80's. I asked him how much, he said six. I said six hundred?, he said yes. I hooked up the trailer, got the cash and headed over to the guy's house. I get there and look it over. It's in decent shape. some surface rust, a couple small dings, tires dry rotted, a broken side window, interior needs redone due to mice and dry rot. I asked again how much are you asking six hundred? He said yes. I count out 6 hundred dollar bills into his hand and we roll it outside. It's takes me a half hour or so to get it loaded by myself using a come along. I get it all strapped down, shake his hand, get in my truck and start to pull out the driveway. He comes running up to my window yelling something so I roll it down and he says I think we have a problem. I said what? He says I meant six thousand not six hundred. I was furious. I was all hot, sweaty and dirty from loading the thing up. I almost hit the gas and drove off. But I got out, unstrapped it, let it roll off and he handed me the money back. I left without saying another word.

I tried to bribe a guy not to buy a truck cab from me once. He called on it, we agreed on $500 and he was coming to get it. Then I got another call from another guy who said he'd pay $800. I called the first guy back and told him I'd give him $100 not to buy the cab, but he wanted none of that, he was coming to get it, and I honored the $500 price we agreed on.

That's why I like to auction **** off. Everyone gets a chance to put their bid in and you sell to whoever is willing to pay the most.

I backed out on a sale 30 years ago. My father reminded me of what I have. When the buyer came back with the money, next day, I told him I don't want to sell the car.

Yeah he was pissed, shocked, and even offered me a thousand dollars more, at one point, a 67 Mustang w/ 427 and cash. No.

I still have the car. 69 Fairlane formal roof 428 SCJ factory drag pac, 33.000 miles.

I was going to buy a 65 galaxie moredoor that was sold on ebay but the buyer never showed up so we agreed on the price and I rented a trailer come and get it and as I was about to leave to get it I got a call saying that he could not sell it to me as the person who was supposed to buy it off ebay had contacted him and still wanted it. I was out the money to rent the trailer but at least I heard it before I got all the way there,he had ben waiting on the person a couple months and if someone did that to me I would of sold it to whoever showed up with cash like I was going to but I did find another shortly after. My dad bought a Cushman scooter at a local swap for $50. The guy said he had a better one and he would take $50 for that one too. My dad paid him and said he would swing by later that day to pick it up. When he got there, the guy refused to sell it and gave him his $50 back.

My guess is that the guy put the car up to cover some debt and found funds some other place. Getting the $100. along with a full refund sure is a fair thing to do IMO.

Happens to me on stuff all the time. The worst was a Harley I was on the way to buy a couple of hours away from home. I had told the seller I was on my way, and I was bringing cash and a trailer with me. He calls when I'm halfway there and says he is selling it to someone else. Just last week I was going to buy a tri-power intake and carbs. I told the guy I wanted it and would pick it up as soon as he sent me his address so I could come get it. He called me later and said that someone offered him more money and wanted me to match the amount. I told him no way. Neither of them gave me any Benjamins-hell they didn't even apologize.

Some guy named had a 1970 ford van that i was hot for. He actually contacted me from craigs list wanted my 1967 skylark I had listed. The trade was all set so I fueled the skylark up and set out to do the swap. On the way out 90 east I saw a 1970 ford, mariner blue, custom van heading east on 90 [ up on a trailer] ! ! !

the ***** sold it out from under me after the deal was made ! Watch out for guys that live in ashtabula county named Jr.
