I definitely don't spend enough time in the garage but I have learned that there is a very delicate balance between spending time with the car and spending time with the wife. Too much time with the car and I might as well move out into the garage.

Ha ha, I've done some of that! Used to stay till midnight after a regular work day, then 14 hours a day on weekends and holidays. Projects are done now so I have cut back a lot.

This is where I am at too. And after spending some serious time away to get my current truck done I have taken a long break and spent more time with the wifey. I am slowly getting back out there to work on the econoline though. Spend some good time on Saturday and a couple hours during the work week.

    Later,

Being kinda retired I was spending 8-10 hours a day. Since the knee replacement I get more HAMB time and have actually stopped going out to the shop since Christmas. Now that the knee is better the other one is deteriorating fast (from over exercising) and they can't get to do the other one until April. Looks like my shop time is going to be zero until about June.

That's a tough question, depends. Probably in the 10-12 range on average.

When I'm not moving dirt, I'm in the shop. 10 hours of work making money or 10 hours finishing my model A in 9 months!! I need to start moving more dirt.

NONE!! Set aside all day today for my son and I to pull the trans in my '64.

But it's a HIGH today of -30c (or -24f ) and in an unheated garage it just wasn't gonna happen!

I try to get something done every weekend and once a week in the middle, but 4 kids are hard on the wife, and that makes my life harder..........funny how that works. but I only have a one car garage too so half of the things I do require semi-decent weather for rollin stuff out.
as long as I can cross something off the list Im happy. Paul

Well, saints, did you really resolve to do this?

    I'm retired.

I get up, do breakfast and run the errands, store, whatever. At about 9 I head for the garage. I come home for lunch. Sometimes I go back, sometimes not.

With my wife, 'Quality time' has never been a time issue, it's always been a 'control issue'. It's when she decides what it is. I think most wives are like that. It's their nesting instinct. That's why they're called wives.

Your one point that you spend a lot of time in the garage when everybody else is in bed might need to be modified. I recall a long-long-long-long time ago I had the same complaint. What I did was go to bed when she did, then after she was satisfied and asleep, if I woke up early the next day I played with my hobby until it was time to go to my day job.

You can have quality time with the kids, or the wife, you don't have to come in out of the garage to do that. They can join you, even if it's under duress.

You might add up all of your spare time, announce that every-other-day, half of it is in the garage, with you, sweeping up, cleaning the driveway, polishing tools, with some of it doing homework in the corner of the garage. Then the other half is for you by yourself!

I try to work until the first damnit tool gets tossed. Usually i can work a couple of hours a night, though here lately striped screw heads have ****ed up my "too pissed off to work/happy as a clam" ratio a lil bit, so ive been working for like 20min. a night for the last week or so.
