Ever notice how upset you can get w/ your HotRod or if your fabbing up something and things are not going right or you just cannot solve that problem no matter how long you sit on that milk crate and just stare at it.......but yet we keep going back for more.like some kind of battered HotRod syndrome..Its a love..but times you just hate it..a self induced torture that most wives really do not want to hear about or the non HotRod folks at work..kinda like talking to a wall....but you still want to talk cars and they could care less........I am lucky, atleast my wife will listen to me when I vent about the on goings in the back yard garage........I just pulled the engine and trans again.....The trans oil really smells burnt..........This will have to be one of the long winter month projects...Littleman...sorry for all the psycho babble...ha ha ha

Well you must really beat up on that trans, make sure you have the right pressure on the 1st and 2nd clutch pack. Well freshen it up and wait till next season. Sorry to hear the bad news.

Must have had a little slippage under power to burn up cluthes in the trans.Maybe this is what it took to get your 10 sec pass.A little more stall or a little gear thrown at her?? Btw,Great job Hard work with Good results is always a great feeling,Nice way to start the next season.Good luck.....Gary

Thanks........I am up in the air about plugging this bullet back into the Truck, I could and should rebuild the 327 that I took out and stick it back in....The Truck really has performed way past my expectations I originally set out to do..I need to finish DeathsDoorStep and play w/ it at the track.....I would be real happy if it ends up going as fast as the Truck has.....I do know I can make the Truck faster thou!..Littleman

Quick update...Plan for this year....My daughter and I drove to Summit racing the other day and picked up a more dragrace oriented camshaft and matching springs.....The current hydraulic roller will be replaced with a solid camshaft....also planing on giving the heads a haircut.....shooting for final compression of 13 to 1.....will also be running a much higher stall than before...so this year I do not plan on driving it on the street...I am also going to aftermarket axles, I have been running the stock 31 Pontiac splines and will get 35 spline stuff...and swap out the posi chunk for a spool setup around a 5.13.....will also be making up a nitrous system for the 6x2.......figured what the hell.....I will give it a try once the whole packaged is dialed in....then hit the switch.....To tell you the truth I have always hated the thought of nitrous....but after reasearching it...hell its been around a very long time...used on aircraft to increase speed ect. Some guys tried it long ago, just had trouble getting a handle on it.....Looks like it wasnt until the mid 70's or so it was mastered for the track.......but whats to say if I was young and alive during the sixties and gave it a try and got it to work.....Really whats the difference between running nitrous and running exotic fuels such as alky and nitro...they are all after the same goal after all.......Speed.........It will be interesting giving it a try w/ the six-twos.....I will not be adding any fancy electronics to control timing or anything else......I am just going to tickle it...........I want to see how fast six-twos will go in the Truck...................Then rebuild the old 327 that was taken out and plug it back in.........after I am happy with the results.......Littleman

    Haha! You're addicted to speed.

Don't worry, NOS is traditional. Just tell people it stands for New Old Stock. :D

This is gonna be fantastic. what are you gonna do about timing with such high compression and no electronics? I cant wait to see what you come up with for the plate set up.

  13. Know what I like about your truck...?

It addheres to the "True Hot Rod" pursuit of performance... this was something that I used to follow in Hot Rod Magazines special feature called "Project-X". I followed that 57 Chevy's transformations until it fell off the Radar!

I like how you're constantly tinkering for the "Ultimate" performance" with one vehicle showing the results of your changes.

This is exactly what I'm pursuing with my Roadster while maintaining complete streetability... keep it up Dave... see you at Mokan???

Did you order your lexan or purchase it locally? What thickness did you use?

I see you get the water spots all over from the burnout box too....it makes a mess on the white headers doesnt it :D

You're almost in methanol territory, that'd be an interesting deal. Good luck with the NOS, are you going for a hidden look?

    Littleman,
I used to run tons of spray until I got hooked on the superchargers. I've also blown my fair share of stuff up with the N20. My advice for you is RUN a fuel pressure saftey switch, wide open throttle switch,RPM activated switch with a Min/Max,and a MSD pn#8970 timing retard box if you want it too live. Its all easy stuff to hide and will make your motor live.

With a 125-200hp shot that little pickup won't know what hit it! Those slicks will be boiling off!:D

    Dave,
I'm sure you know that you really cant dial it in on motor and get all the benfit from the nitrous. Your converter and gear selection would be quite different.

I had considered nitrous years ago, but opted for lots of compression and methanol.

I'm guessing you will be getting dangerously close to running in the 9's with nitrous if you decide to go that route. Lots of new rules apply and you have to get your license, etc.

I do agree with ShakeyPuddin55 on the converter/gears but I don't think its worth worrying about on a weekend/fun drag race setup. If it was mine and I was going to go the N2O route I would go with the NOS Sportsman Fogger 6 cylinder kit and start with the 75hp jet setting and work your way from that.

  24. I don't know a thing about nitrous, but don't your carbs now only take a small amount of fuel pressure before blowing the needles off the seats. How will you introduce more fuel for the N2O but avoid that happening ?

The N20 system will have its own fuel pump/regulator

  26. by-passing the carbs and going through the plate with the N2O ?

If you used a Fogger setup you could just use carb spacers drilled and tapped for the nozzles. The system would be self contained and have nothing to do with the carbs fuel system

Quick update...........new cam is in and the heads have been given a haircut and cc'd before and after.........new compression is 13.2 and theirs more room to go for another haircut down the road !...The intake will need a little work to get back on...but I have been thru that before......when It was first taken apart the rear two cylinders pistons were frosty white.......lean....the center two a touch rich and the front two torwards the lean side but closer to what one would look for..The Offy intake is not the best design.........if I would have been running nitrous...the rear two pistons may have not made it........so it went 10.89 under these conditions which tells me it could have gone a touch faster if balanced better.....theirs always plenty to learn if you want too.....Littleman
