I went to a Heads Slot Car Drag Race tonight. It's been over thirty years since I raced a slot car. It was just as much fun as when I was a kid. There were some really famous Outlaw Drag Racers there running slot cars. The guy in the bright yellow shirt is in charge of Jack Roush's carbon fiber department. They have 3 tracks up and are building a forth. this cured my winter blues. i just thought I'd p*** it on.
Bill Curtis owns this really cool slot car shops. His shop is at 2055 Rawsonville rd. Belleville MI 48111 There phone number is 734-487-8410 the web site is http://www.tsshobbies.com

I will check it out. For the tip, you win a photo that I shouldn't post before the article is published. I shot Kirk Hanning's truck this summer in Detroit. Thanks for the tip on the thread Bob.

I just found your thread. I'll have fun reading all the stories. I raced in the sixties. My mom would drive my friends and I to all the tracks in the area. there were about 20 good tracks in the Motorcity area. We used to have a riot.
My mom was pretty crazy back them. She had a SC rambler that my dad had repainted silver because he said the original paint was too ugly. So my mom was the ultimate sleeper. We used to get her to race anything that pulled up next to us at a light. My mom also talked my dad into letting me get a Mini Bike. I was lucky to have a mom like that.

Did this for about 3 years, with my oldest son. It was a blast, we loved building and racing the cars. But the track kept changing locations, and we lost track of it. Think I'm gona start asking around, and see if I can find it.

It will take you a while, haha. It's like 225 posts!!!

The track that was over by me in Downey, was owned by a friend I went to school with. On the night they ran drag racces, there were about 50-60 guys there! One guy I remember also raced RC boats and raced an actual TF drag boat! Wish it was still around...

  20. Its all a lot of fun, I raced for a while when I was still in the Army.
This is one I built, it won its cl*** in the 1999 New South Wales Nationals running a perfect 1.01 on a 1 sec break out for the cl***!
It also won best in show 'Concourse'.
It has a hand made br*** ch***is, scratch built interior with a br*** roll cage for strength and full detail like dash gage's, tach with shift light pedals and belts in a Monogram 32 Roadster body. Windscreen is plastic sheet with split br*** posts drilled into the body, again for strength.
Motor is a detailed T/F item from an Eddie Hill kit. It features br*** injector lines, safety blower belts, throttle return spring, fully plumbed, twin plug leads and headers made from solder with aluminium collectors.
Its painted Purple Pearl and although it has some orange peel it looks good.
It will need new rear slicks as this hasn't been raced in a few years the tires have gone hard.
    No spares, just the car.

WOW those drag slots are awsome!! i started building a 1/32 scale drag strip. It's not to scale since i just don't have the room in my ba*****t. I have 20' feet of drag strip and enough room to stop. When we drag race we do it the old fashion way we use a flash light to start. one of my buddies is working on some lights to make a tree and a win light.

here is a few LAME videos i shot of my drag strip

my son shot the middle portions of this video
    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Hmvw6FhHg5w&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Hmvw6FhHg5w&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

lot's of windex burnouts in this one

I can't believe how cool these slot cars are. The H.A.M.B never lets you down when you want to see cool stuff. The weathering on the bodies looks like it was real. WOW.

when i was a kid in the 60s there was lots of tracks in town.
no more where i live ...
i was thinking of opening a local track to try to help introduce the new kids to something fairly inexspensive and keep em off the streets..

We have a new track in our area. It looks realy cool, but cheap? It was $13.00 per hour to rent the car and run it around the track. I was realy into it when I was a young teeneager and enoyed dong bodys for my cars. I might dip my feet in the water again

  26. So where is the track located, and what scale is it?

Cool post. I used to have a HO set up built onto a 4x8 table. My cat would sneak into the middle of the elevated turns and wait for a car to come along - then WHACK! she'd knock it off the track pick it up in her mouth and run off into another room to kill it. I used to race parking lot RC cars too, but got tired of spending piles of money to sit in 100 degree heat only to have some 12 year kid kick by **** all over the track. Larger scale indoor slot tracks look pretty cool though - AC and a bathroom. :D
