i have a mustang II frontend under my 53 ranchwagon.i didnt put it there,it was there when i bought the car.the *** end is right where i want it but the front needs to go upabout 4 inches. i can lay it on the ground with this set up but i cant find anything to help me go up.has anyone ever put theirs up in the air or have any ideas how. is there a taller spring i could use. isthere a copany that makes taller spindles? any ideas?right now it sits late 60s style. *** up front down. might be good on a nova or chevelle but looks kinda stupid on a 53 wagon. HELP ME BROTHERS!!!
4 inches!! wow. Does it have dropped spindles? Swapping back in stockers will give you 2". Are the lower arms sitting close to level?
Well, if it has dropped spindles now putting stock ones on would give you two of the inches you are looking for. As far as springs go, your tie rods should be close to level to the ground. There has been a bit of a misnomer about proper set up of these front suspensions perpetrated by almost ALL of the aftermarket manufacturers since the beginning that the lower control arms are supposed to be level at the OEM ride height for "factory geometry. This is not actually correct, the control arm should be slightly higher at the crossmember than the spindle. They the manufacturers just use this as a common starting place because it's easy. Your control arm attachment bolt should be an inch to an inch and a half higher than the ball joint pivot for proper handling. If your attachment bolt is below or level with the ball joint, a taller spring would not only raise the car the appropriate amount but would also improve the handling quite a bit.
Do you know what springs are in there now? If they are the 4 cyl. Must II springs you could try V-8 springs, not only taller but stiffer too. Might get some of that 4" you need.
You can do it with springs. Last year I raised the front of my 36 Nash a little over an inch to be able to navigate Minnesota potholes. Going from a V6 spring with 1/2 coil cut out to an uncut V8 spring gave me 4"! I had to cut a full coil out of the V8 spring to get back to +1". Various companies (Ch***is Engineering, Fatman, etc) offer a variety of springs. I would suggest buying the stiffest you can get and start with that. You can always cut a little out if you get too high. I also agree with the above comments. You can have the ball joint a lot lower than the control arm pivot and evrything will work fine.
