48 rear end

    i found a 1948 ford. i was wanting to know if anyone knows how wide it is?
    i have a channeled 32 that i was thinking of using it on. i want to run 16''s and i want it to be close to the body? thanks

    how about backing plate to backing plate? or maybe someone with 16'' with 7.50s (tire to tire)

    Bishop and Tardel's book states that 35'-41' axle was 32.85 inches per side - about 3/4" longer than the 32' - and 33.70 inches per side from 42'-48'. It's on pg. 49 if you have the book.

    I agree try to keep it tight as possible. If I did the math right a 48' axle ***embly is about 3" longer than the 32'.
     
  5. The 46-48 rear ends are the widest "banjo" rear ends Ford made. By about an inch on both sides. On a channeled car those extra inches can be the difference between wheel rub and wheel clearance at the top of the wheel well. I'm using 48 bells on my model T project. And the clearance is tight.

    i dont have the book, but will look for it. so if it 3'' longer it should be perfect?
