It should be a FUN summer!!!!
hello from dillonvale, ohio. i am 17 miles from wheeling. i enjoyed the sunny day yesterday and took the ol'1942 buick roadmaster out for a lil spin yesterday. spent the last two days tinkerin around the garage, cant wait til spring.
I'm in Newport Ky but it's a river town overlooking downtown Cincy Oho. I do some cruising in Ohio every week. Lots going on. Milford Cruise In brings in a great crown and there is always something cool going on towards Dayton, OH
Hey, I'm up for that. Greg (the owner of hot rod city) is an old friend, and has a great little restaurant and alot of hot rod stuff! I'm definately up for a little trip over there sometime. Anyone else? Here's the link to his site for anyone who doesn't know what its all about... http://www.hotrodcityusainc.com/index.htm
I was just in New Philly the other day. I didn't even know that place was there. Appx 80 miles from me.
Hey, Checking in from North Ridgeville, I used to run at Pals drive in on Aroura road too, before that the action was at the old A&W on Broadway in Bedford. Closer to Brunswick and Norwalk now!!
North central checking in. Within ear shot of norwalk dragstrip. Keep an eye out for the BBQ at my place in Aug.
Who was the heavy set italian guy used to pull wheelstands with a 56 chevy all the time ? ? He used to hang out at A&W. The car was stock appearing orange and white, wicked ass sleeper even had a stock interior.
I grew up not too far from Quaker City drag strip in Salem. Did they survive the 80's? I moved out of the state '84 and only get back once in awhile. Thanks for the New Phila link - I lived nearby for a few years. Didn't know Hot Rod City was there - looks great.
Sure did. IHRA track. Dealing fairly well. Putting up with new insurance regs... walls, backs on bleachers and such. Still has the great uphill waterbox. FWD cars on a test and tune night have a lot of fun sliding backwards out of the box!
I grew up in Maple Hts. My buddy's girlfriend was a carhop on roller skates at that A&W. (1973) I used to drive her home after work when my buddy worked 2nd shift. She really showed her appreciation for the ride on the swing on her front porch. Great mammaries, I mean memories. A&W was part of a cruise circuit which included Bedford Reservation, Manners by the old bridge, Southgate, McDonald's, Manners in Bedford. Any of you oldtimers remember Bugs Inc. Two Fiat 500 or 600's. One Black and one Gold Metalflake. Fast Runners. Or a green and white Vega GT with a SBC in it.
I really think there are more hotrodders compiled in this 100 sq mile area than any other in the country. And all this started in the 50's and early 60's. I'm south of Canton near New Phily.
The V-8 Shop was down Aurora Rd near Northfield Rd. Wasn't that the first location for Lobeck which is now in Oakwood Villiage a few miles away?
I read somewhere that there are more hotrod rodders per capita in N.E Ohio than any other state except some locations in CA. I will try to find the source.
Not quite what I was looking for but this is from Rod and Custom.com Ohio doesn't get the respect it deserves. A lot of people don't realize that Ohio has the most miles of interstate highway per capita, the most railroad tracks per square mile, and the most miles of roller coasters. It has the most registered motorcycles and the most registered boats. The first gasoline-powered American automobile appeared in Ohio, along with the first traffic light, and the first service station. And most important of all, Ohio claims the most R&C readers (outside of California, that is). That's a lot of hot rodders. We figure most of them were in Columbus in July for the 7th Goodguys PPG Nationals.
WOW, I'm just sitting here diggin' on the towns, Concord, Willowick, Mentor, Assholebula ! Grew up in Willoughby Hills, my ol'man was the city's first Police Chief, school at South High in Willoughby , Lakeland comunity college, man the list goes on , All my friends and family scattered like Quail after school ! I remember lots of hot cars, crusin' the Manners in Mentor, then jumpin on the freeway to race that asshole in the silver 65 corvette, Blew his doors off ! Would be fun to come back for a visit, maybe some one could let me know when it stops raining or snowin, should be about a 1 week window ! Fun Thread ! Thanks
Grew up in Bedford. Attended grade school right behind Pals. Lottsa cars in this area, seems never ending when you start talkin to some of people that grew up in Bedford and surrounding communities. Stuff keeps poppin up in garages all over the place. I can't believe all the cool stuff I never knew was even there!! a lot of cars and rods right in my back yard. Ohio has the most helpfull car people I've ever run accross. Bryan
