I thought it was a Honda Scrambler, my older brother had a 305 Scrambler. He traded his 53 Chevy panel truck (long one) for the bike. What does the CL stand for ?

  2. You're absolutely right Andy,Kernodle's car is the ex-S-W-C car.Another tid-bit,the McKesson Mustang you posted was sold to Larry Coleman later that year.He put a blown SOHC in it and brought it to Indy.Del Heinelt lost his life in a qualifying wreck with that Mustang.Send me a PM with your e-mail on it,please.I have a 'surprising' photo for you! The Mustang flopper on the left bares a slight resemblence to Bill Lerners Paper Boy A/FC. Lerner, based out of Massachusettes, venutered out West during the winter of 1971. Orginally designed for nitro, Lerner ran straight alky, as per the rules for the So-Cal circuit, and qualified for a few 8 car shows.

Seeing a "Scrambler" at Carlsbad brings back memories of having raced a CZ in the blue grove, baked adobe MX track that snaked around the south of the drag strip. Albeit in the early 90's via the vintage circuit, I miss the hard clay, old school MX course

A photo of Phil taken by another Phil. Sure brings back some memories mate. Remember our trip to Ravenswood, the overheating Chevy and the kangaroo out on the Nullabor? I wish that I had some pix of that episode.

  11. There ya go Ian, No sooner said than done.
Actually Rooman posted these about a year ago.

Hey Roo. That was certainly an interesting trip across Australia. That was a complete story on its own. I think the road trips back then were as good, if not better than the racing. Some of them should never be told!!

Certainly a golden era in Aussie Drag Racing. A couple of things of note here, 1 independant from end. 2 a healthy overdrive. I love it!!:D

Thank you for posting these pictures FunnyCar65. I was stationed in San Diego in 66, 67 and part of 68. Carlsbad was our second home. Being from the East Coast it was like heaven on earth. I was there that night in 66 when John Mulligan driving the Ward Wayre Mulligan Racecar turned that unheard of 6.95 @221 mph run. Thanks for the memories.

Another inspired fanatic, you guys forced my hand. I have some early Ravenswood (West Aussie) stuff somewhere, I'd better start digging. Here's a couple I had on my computer. I've been so keen to study every page of this thread, I'm incredibly well educated now. I'm in awe of some of the guys that have posted. Royal, I'd like to party in your magazine rack. Thanks mate!
