The shorter of these two pitman arms came off of one of my '56 F-100 steering boxes, and the longer was on a front end that I was given without knowing what year truck it was from.

What years of F-100s had the longer pitman arm like this?

Has anyone here used a longer arm on a '53-'56 F-100 steering box in their car?

Pretty sure the sector shaft is bigger diameter on the big trucks too. Is that so on your example?

The one has a longer, meatier shaft, with a bigger ball too. I would have guessed the sector was bigger also.

Maybe 57-60 F-100...they used a similar steering box.

Looking at a 56 Truck Parts Manual, the longer one fits F350, F500 truck and bus, and F600 truck and bus.

I would think that just the opposite would be true. The longer on should give you quicker steering, also further travel of the drag link.

I have the 3590 (longer arm). It came on a 32 ford box and column. Does the ball face in or out? Also, is it safe to use on the 32 box? It only has about 10 splines on the bottom.
The 32 shaft does not appear tapered.

Maybe, but I thought the '57 had a tapered hole on the bottom to connect to a conventional tie rod for the drag link instead of the ball?
