well i finally got all my ducks in a row to at least start my project. i've got a 1950 international harvester L110 that i'm going to be using the cab and bed, i wanted to run a sheet metal bed and have open front and rear wheels but i got warned that if i don't use the bed w/ the tire on the side i'll be killed lol. plans are to leave the cab and bed unmolested and rusty, use the stock solid axle up front and for now a rear from an 01 suburban, at least till i blow that up. still undecided if i'm going to run a hood or not yet. 1 1/2" dom tubing 3/16" wall chassis and run either coilovers or airbags front and rear. the motor is a 1st gen cummins w/ 110k miles. plans are for a mild twin set up, hx40 over ht3b or s400, not sure which yet, it'll be a single for a while though. some 6x18s injectors and head studs. i want to do a p-pump conversion down the road $$ permitting. 01 ford 7.3 intercooler and some sort of radiator w/ electric fans and BD exhaust manifold. oh and stack straight out of the hood. enough talk here are a few pics to hold yall over.
and the latest little update. first i built a frame jig so i can square everything up then i started on my frame, got the main rails that will be under the cab done. i need to add some side supports to the jig so i lay the rails on there and put some x members in., i laid everything out and imo it looks mean and will look meaner w/ a stack out of the hood.
thanks, it's my first frame up build so we'll see how it goes. it's on hold right now anyway while i work on my duramax.
well i think i'm going to do a hood stack. if i do stacks i will probably just use 2 rusted 5" slash cut stacks.
That thing has a ton of potential for holy-freakin-sweetness with the big ole diesel. If you keep the fenders. Remove the fenders and no amount of heavy duty diesel sweetness will compensate. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
I agree with zman, keep the fenders and the hood. As the owner of a '51 l-110 I can't wait to see what you end up with. Keep us posted.
i'm still tossing around the idea of putting it on air, if not it'll be set up at about 2.75" ride height. lol i had to read that like 3x for my mind to get it right lol. yea i was on the fence till i laid the fenders and hood on there, then i said to myself, "self, that looks mean as hell, guess i'll be running fenders" it's gonna make for a squirley ride that's for sure, i already have a 500hp duramax on air ride that gets all kinds of sideways. i'm thinking about maybe using the frame of a ford grille b/c mine is kinda fubar. thanks a bunch for the kind words guys.
Maybe it is just my lazy way of thinking, but why build a whole frame from the ground up when the one you have there looks so substantial, and actually pretty damn nice?
b/c i like a challange lol. na, the one i have is in really good shape but i just wanted to do something a little different ya know. i was really surprised on how clean the stock frame was, the truck must have been kept in a barn all it's life.
Looks cool!! As a fellow IH owner, I'm really interested... Using a 6BT, how much room will you have forward for the rad and IC? Seems like most guys use a 4BT because of the space...I'm glad to see someone finally jump up to do a 6.
thanks. i've got some other cool ideas that will cater to the Harvester look too that i'm sure you'll like. i'm going to put the rad in the bed and just run the intercooler up front. i'm also going to try and set the motor as far back as possible to transfer as much weight to the rear wheels as possible.
Yea i love to see diesels in hot rods, plenty of HP and a fuck ton of torque. Gonna be real fun to drive.
ha me too. i only get to work on my shit on the weekends so... hey, need any parts for that superduty you got?
Cool project, that will be a fun truck with teh 6BT in it, i'am building a 1937 International D-15 pickup with a Cummins 4BT and a NV4500. A buddy of mine has a 1936 C-1 International Rock crawler with a 4BT also it was in Diesel Power mag a few months ago, he also has a 1973 IH crew cab with a 98 12 valve 6B.
