I don't know, but I'll be willing to bet within days of finishing you two will be having a Slot Car Match Race! I'm going to post a thread about you today. Keep an eye out for a Old School Match Race Thread.

The hardshell cars have the best detail over over the lexan bodies. It's like building a model that runs!! But these things aren't toys I went .466 of a second @ 117 MPH with one of my AA/FCs. That's 55' from a dead stop. The records @ .403 132 MPH. They have g***er, pro mod, pro stock, nostalgia cl***es and many more. It's a cool thing to do when Winter comes. It keeps those racing juices going!!!

My sons just bought a couple of WOMP slot cars this weekend...actually, I bought them. They are quick little *******s, that's for sure! The place they race has a roundy-round and a drag strip. Pretty cool.

what a cool thread! been 40 years since i was racing my eldon setup. between slot cars and model trains thats where i got my dc electric training. when the transformer would go bad you got some D batteries slid them inside a paper towel cardboard center and wired them direct. sure wish i had those setups today probably worth some good money.

My dad gave me a big colection of old slot cars he had as a kid. I should probably take them to some track to see if any of them are still functional.

  16. You are Steve that raced with his brother, right?
    And lived in AP.

Unless your as old as me you might be thinking of Mike Grosso (Outlaw Photo)
I used to shoot at Detroit Dragway from 1970-75. I've been shooting a Milan Dragway for the last 5 years. Mike Grosso shoots there also. Here's the link to my gallery http://motorcitynationals.com/v-web/gallery/main.php?

WOW!! I didn't know slot cars were this big a thing and i didn't know they were that detailed. I really got a kick out of that blue G body and that yellow camaro! The place that had that in Northern Virginia where I am from, closed and it seemed no one cared. I am glad to see this!

  26. Yes, I am as old as you and I was asking about Mike Grosso. I was a spectator during the the 60's and 70's. I worked with Ralph and started working at Detroit Dragway in 1988 or 1989 until it closed.

i did some 1/24 drag racing for a couple years (199-2000) on a scale 1/4 mile track. the track closed up, and that was the end for me. i still have them all yet, though. my favorite one is my willys. i didn't want to stick a wing on it, so i had to keep it under 1.190. any faster, the air would lift the back of the car, and it would start to chatter like crazy.
