The cool stuff a good lost wax caster can do is almost unlimited. Kick *** emblems out of br***. Killer oil tanks like on Cole's blue bobber. The list goes on. Anyone? Bueller?
I made a ring once out of nickle...like in 8th grade. I remember it was pretty cool at the time, and easy. Other than that I don't really remember much, but post your questions. Someone will know.
There's a book called "Practical Casting" by Tim McCreight. It's an exellent resource for all sorts of different casting processes.
i've made a few neat pieces myself, my interpretation of a 3rd century BC macedonian war helmet, skull for a shifter knob, a few other things. makes it easy when your dad and his business partner operate the biggest art casting foundry in ohio most of the stuff they do is around 1000 lbs and heavier, usually life and 1/3 scale. cool stuff. anybody needs any questions answered, let me know. the company's website is www.alancottrill.com and should have a kind of educational step by step in addition to alan's work.
dead harddrives, transmission cases, other s**** aluminum, hang onto it, dont let the chinese have it! Rather we make it into skulls and block-off plates and drag plates then for them to make jets out of!
Thanks Chromedrat. I will have to come visit some time. Maybe you could hook me up with a tour!! craig
Worked at a foundry for a few years, doin lost wax. K-MEMBER and I used to do small stuff at home, using silver solder. Little skulls from Holloween wax candy. Pretty easy to do small stuff............OLDBEET

If you want some technical questions answered I can find out for the "Pros" here. jimV
