Am having a terrible time getting my door to close and latch. I've got the door adjusted to fit the opening good, but the door will not latch no matter where I put the latch. Any suggestions?
Dave, have you tried posting on the chevy chatter forum? here's a link http://vccachat.org/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/postlist/Board/1/page/1
Did you put new hinge pin bushings in. Keeps the door from sagging when open. Latch could be broken.. New rubber around the door ? Stricker maybe to deep. Did you try bringing it out some and see if it latches. ? $0.02
open the door and pull up and check your hinges for play. if your hinges are good and the door fits the hole good the only adjustment is in the striker in the jamb, move it up - down etc til you get what you want look inside the striker... there is a little plastic piece that could be worn. not sure if anyone makes these... try chevsofthe40s.com if yours is toast. also you may need to lube the lock/latch mechanism. there are also some little springs in there that could be broken. open the door and push on the part in the jamb on the door that moves up and down, that sould feel reall solid and engage with a good strong click. if not take it out and check the springs. chevsofthe40s sells those for sure.
Thanks for the help. I removed the weather stripping from the door and it works fine. put some of it back on and the door closes ok, but not all the way. I think it may not be the right weather stripping. Am going to check with other sources to verify.
