whats a cheap way of converting to a vacuum advancing distributor on a 31 model a four cylinder flathead i read on another thread where a guy bought one off eBay or something and modified the body of the dizzy and the off set slot on the input shaft as well. does anyone remember what post this may b??
ive never heard of it...i think vacuum advances are simply a way of improving mileage/reducing emissions. early fords had a vacuum brake to reduce detonation on hard pulls with poor gas of the day. also model a's only require about 32* total advance which a mechaical advance delivers. adding a vacuum advance on top of that will cause poor performance
If you want to get rid of the stock manual advance distributor and reap the benefits of a distributor with an automatic advance curve, an distributor from an early flathead four cylinder Jeep engine adapts to the A/B engine with very little modification.
Does the Ford Model A engine need a dual point distributor? I thought the purpose of running dual points was to offset point float from high RPM use.
I have a single point Mallory two piece distributor that works like a charm, got it on ebay for like 40 bucks or so, dont buy a new one they look cheap and out of place on those old engines
