Hi Jack from Mass here. I first want to say that this site is great. Im about to start my first project a 1950 Studebaker Cahmpion. I bought on Ebay about 4 years ago and had it shipped up here. Its in great shape. Life has slowed down enough for me to actually make it happen now. I am thinking of doing a s10 frame swap, so I will be able to have updated steering brakes suspension and a newer frame all in one package. Anyone with an opinion or advice, have at it. I could use the direction. take care

Hi Jack, from another FNG from Carver, who'd a thunk it? Figured I'd piggy back onto your intro with my own (hope that's OK). My name is Jim, I have a 52 Chevy convertible I'm trying to find time to work on. Has a 350, auto, late model susp and rear end, etc. My other car is a non HAMB friendly 72 Chevelle SS ragtop w/ a 454, TH400 w/Gear Vendors overdrive, 12 bolt, PW, PDL, tilt etc. Earn my living as a self employed auto tech and do a little maching and fab work also. Great site, spent most of the weekend looking at many posts and pics. Jack, if I can be of any help, let me know. Thanks, Jim.

welcome to the Hamb from Oregon coast. I have a 52' champion similar to yours, I drove it in original condition for about 4 years. it still had the flathead 6 and three speed overdrive. I've recently swapped in a 350 chev. and chev. 3spd. overdrive.pretty easy swap using the original frame. I still need to swap the rear-end to a 8 in. ford with 3.25 gears. Drives just fine with the stock frame.

No Kidding!! of all the places Carver! Well nice to meet you. I'm down by the Plymouth Airport. I'm pumped cuz i can access this page at work which is a bonus. I've been sitting here thinking abut what to do with teh frame swap/no frame swap thing. I'm sarting to lean towards keeping teh frame and doing a 350 swap. I just need to figure out stopping, lol. Its nice to 110, its even nicer to stop! Did you use a newr front end ie Mustang II on yr 52? If you did how much of a beast was it to do?

Hi Attastude, So the swap wasnt bad? That is one of the main reasons i was debating the s10 swap. Did you put in a new front end, with the newer powerplant?

Welcome, I also have a 50 Stude. My first car, my dad bought it in 1969 for $50. Currently putting in a 400SBC, 700R4, Fatman front sub, and Mustang II suspension. Good luck on your build.

Hi DMW56, Thats awesome that you still have the car. Good luck with the build , its way more ambitious than mine. I'm just upgrading to a SBC and th350. I figure I'll get to the rest of it as I drive it. I would love to put in mustang II but that's a bit more than I can handle at the moment. Make sure you post some pics.

Studebakers rule. Mine is a 52. From 1951 to the end the Stude frame and suspension remained about the same. It works fine as is, although some will still swap it out. Better braking solutions are easy to find. 1950 is a different ballgame though. That year even the Champion and Commander were even different. So what you have is really unique.

Chip Foose and the Atomic Punk Bubbletop Rod are going to be there. I have not gone since they started charging a separate admission price for parking, $14 per person and $12 for parking, i told them for that price i want the oil changed and the car washed. No other show on the entire circuit charges as much for parking.

I think I might go to the show this weekend, weather permitting. Maybe get a few ideas or inspiration, and alot of "that is sick!" reactions. If I go I'll definitely stop by and check out yr ride, Hammer. It looks sweet! Not to keen on the wallet raping for parking that is crazy, maybe I'll T it in if it isnt too bad out. I haven't been to one in a loooooong time(like I said I saw "The Hoff" and KITT"). Now Knight Rider is a friggin Mustang! Nothing against them, but come on!

Caractacus, what do you have in there? By the look of the rear it isn't 169 6 cylinder, haha. Do you know where I can get a bolt on disc setup for the front? And yr rite Studes do rule!

same frame and front end. I'm going to change the rear-end to 8in. ford. might straight-axle the front end, but it's fun to drive until I'm ready. easy swap, tried a 318 mopar first, but it didn't fit very well. have read articles in turning wheels, 'studebaker drivers club' magazine using stock front brakes seems to work when you upgrade to newer rears. also 53' and up brakes will fit your front end to get adjustable brakes...I still try to keep a safe distance behind another vehicle...

No kidding?! So, I can kinda sorta upgrade the front, that's cool. I'll probably run what I have just to see how goo/bad they are. The brake system just doesn't look like much to me. Kind of has me nervous, I never saw a master cylinder that small, lol.
