You're just trying to torture us with these pictures of your and your friends beautiful cars and you're doing a good job of it,keep it up. Just don't let some general next door see them or he will have all his troops over trying to claim homeland security-military need. Lived across town 30+ yrs.ago, next time through on the way further south would like to stop and see. Would even try not to drool. Great cars!

  4. There was a super nice '40 for sale at Sonic in Tallah***ee the other night. Had a belly****on motor and he wanted 40 grand for it. It was out of TN somewhere.

When I first became aware of my addiction to old cars 40's were realatively new. About 57/58. I liked 40 Fords the first time I saw one, my Dads fishing car. I bought my first one in 62. I have owned several since. Have one in my shop now. I have never liked a stock looking 40 better than a lowered, rodded 40. Leave the wheels any color or put some vintage style mags on it, just drop it. I sure do like the Caddy motor though. That's my 2 cents. Joe

Cad motors just slide into Ford engine compartments. Almost bolt in. I have one in a 48. That 40 is perfect. Makes me want to spit on my 48.

Randy, You and I have "generally" agreed on most things "hot rod" but to make those wheels red would be a sin of the first order. At first glance I beheld a super nice '40. When the hood went up..............PERFECTION!!!!
When I lived in Lincoln, Nebraska (late fifties/early 60's) the guy who lived across the road had a "40 with a caddy hooked to the origional drivertrain and for her 16th birthday gave is daughter a '32 3w with a Caddy and hydro. The next day every 16-18 year old male at our high school would have signed up to be her slave. It was white with a red roll and pleat interior, red wheels, no trim rings and 40 caps. I was in love (with the car and his daughter but being I was 3 years younger than her it was a NO GO:)) That was my first experience with Caddy powered hot rods and since then I've held them in high regard as a cut above the average when it comes to powering a hot rod. In todays world it would compare to a'32 hiboy roadster with a SBC to one with a full dressed flathead or Chrysler Hemi.

Beatiful car, one day I'll paint mine up but original paint and young boys with screwdrivers and wrenchs who like to wrench keep mine the way it is. I don't have to worry about it just drive the **** out of it. Ya mine has the big old olds fits right in uses the same steel plate to mount to your three speed. Great car one day I want paint and it will look just like that. Love the black on blackon black.

Sweet car. ONLY thing I'd change on it would be to replace/rechrome the painted headlight rims.

At first I thought the same, but then seeing the caddy made em somehow work into the car's flow.

Beautiful car BTW, hope there's one less lurker soon.

Thats a nice car. Reminds me of the ol shine runners. Beef up the rear suspension, get heavy duty tires, and drop in the biggest caddy motor you can with as much power as possible.

Oh, and keep it looking stock

    Oh, man.

I just bought a '40 Standard coupe. My plan involves much major surgery, but that thing does cause me to question my motives a bit.

To add a little fuel to the black/red fire, here's a good example of how a black '40 CAN look with red wheels. This is NOT my car; I can only wish. Well, yeah, it's not really a '40, either:

50Fraud's plans for his '40 are major, but you would be hard pressed to see or know what changes were made! Sorry to steal you're thread!!:)

Yhea, I'll add my 2 cents for what it's worth. but I would lower it with red wheels. Love the cad:). I have a friend who is against doing anything that looks like someone elses car, But....there's a reason most 40 coupes are lowered, painted black, have red wheels or 5 spokes, THEY LOOK NICE and I don't need to be different, just know what looks good to me. Also like black 40's with traditional flames.

Randy - that 40 is killer. Another nice one is the one that is in Charlotte every year with the caddy mill. It has gauges all way accross the dash. Do you know the one? I think it was a survivor from the Charlotte area?
