I am hopefully going to get my hands on a 26' model T coupe and I dont know what to do for a frame since I am on a Budget. should i build a frame, buy one, pull one off another car in a junk yard, or can i use the original frame (seems like a bad idea). This will be my first hot rod and with the economy i am on a really tight budget. Thanks kyle
I seen in mags that MAS has reasonable economical t ch***is. Not sure on the quality of them. If your good at welding or know someone who is you should be able to put one together on the cheap.
A'"T'"frame is very flimsey and would not support a larger engine.Maybe you could find a Ford model A frame which is close to the size of the "T".With some beefing it up will support a larger engine.Of course you will have to change the brakes to hydraulic a most likly the rear axle to something more modern.
If you can locate an A frame, it's a great place to start. If you find one that's too far gone, try mocking it up w/the body, then copy the frame using 4 x 2 x 1/8th tubing. Usually you can save the front crossmember, and build a K member for the trans tailshaft region.
If you are on a budget make damn sure your T coupe has a good decklid, both doors and preferably a windshield frame as these are all rare and expensive parts that rarely come with an affordable body. As for a frame you can easily use a stock Model A frame. I found the nice A frame used under my Fathers T coupe in the woods under a Model A fordoor.
As Wideglide said make sure you have all the body parts. I bought my 27 without doors and thought I could just pick them up at any swap meet, taht is true to a point but you had better have deep pockets. With welding skills a frame to fit under your coupe should be pretty straight foward to build and cheaper than buying one and having it shipped to you.
What he said.... If you don't have these parts wideglide listed, you should part it out and make some money to buy another body. I just built one out of 2x3 box tubing, it really isn't that hard, it just takes a lot of measuring to figure out the placement and the length.
Don't believe a word of that statement above!! He's got way to much talent to tell anyone "it really isn't that hard". LOL Do yourself a favor Kyle and search for other threads on what Chaddilac has done with his coupe. Lots of good info there!!!! Chad... you start on that chop yet???
My mouth ain't opened, it's my fingers that were doin the talkin for me... ya goob! guess which finger is talkin to ya right now. LOL Man, I crack myself up... ahhh.
Thanks for all the replies, I think I will look for a model a frame to beef up and if that fails then i'll see if my dad's buddy wants to take a little trip and and come do the welds on a frame.
Hi,I bought speedway motors frame with front and rear suspension, engine and trans mount and steering mount in place and used on a 27 T coupe awhile back. It is the one used on their 27 roadster.
