Mate, you don't have a bumper to put it on!!!;)

  5. Nice looking car, I can see the body work on the passenger side. Maybe its not as bad as what we had to replace.
Did the guy have any build pics of the rocker panels he said he replaced?

  6. Thanks!:D

Thanks, man. Yeah, she''l look better in another color ( I hate seafoam green). The body work is usually pretty tough to see unless you're in bright sun like I took the pictures in. No, he didn't take any pics--he was an older cat. One part that has me sketchin' is the rear passenger door jamb. If you look close you can see a little area toward the bottom by the post that doesn't match up perfectly. The door operates just fine, but I have the sneaking suspicion that someone backed her up with the door open and she got bent backwards on something. My buddy says that we could just tap it back with a dolly, etc. and that we could block the car, fill in the low spots and primer the car before paint and that it would only take us a weekend. Then he'll shoot it with his hvlp gun. I think he's being pretty optimistic. We'll see.
Seems like you're rockin' right along; can't wait to see it in primer!

Seeing all those pics brings back memories of working on my 55 but I have a Ohio car and yours is in California which I thought was easier on the metal then out here in the rust zone, yours had to come from the east. Jeff

  10. Its possible that it spent some time in the east, The frame and all the steering looks like a west coast car with no pitting and super solod.

Are these cars just notorious for rotting out in these places?

  11. Thanks, The wheels and spider caps will be staying.:D

Wasnt the "builder " of this car featured in the young guns section in Rod N Custom a few years back?? As I recall it talked about the great job he did on the car...I guess they didnt ask him about bodywork eh  Keep it up its looking great, cant wait to see it shiny again!

Most of them got quite rusty around here but I have seen pics of them in junkyards in the southwest that dont look rusty so I dont know what happened to yours, the way the body work was done could be why it rusted up. Jeff

  15. This car?
No... This car sat in storage for 10+ years with a set of cragers on it.
When my friend got it, he dusted it off... got it running...lowered the car...and did some extras on the car.
He had plans of fixing all the rot but his dream car (39 Ford Coupe) came up for sale and a steel of a price.
I asked him to sell the car to me... and here we are today. :D

  16. I agree, the sponges played a big roll in the increased rot.
i wish i new all the history on the car.
I can only track its history to about 11 1/2 years back...

The rockers on my old 54 ford were made from Fed-Ex boxes. The whole car was a mess to start with like yours. I feel your pain.

    Attached Files:

  21. All the bodywork is done. Finaly:D
    Shooting primer this week.
    I'll post pictures soon.

  22. Its crazy what great length's people will go to hack and "fix" panels the wrong way.

  23. Drivers rear quarter needed some minor body work.

Looking good- can't wait for the primer. Have you made a decision as far as the paint scheme? I think the burgundy for sure, but maybe in a flake?

This thread makes me a little scared to poke around the panels on my newly purchased 55 Fairlane...........Its amazing what you overlook due to the "cool factor" of a newly obtained sled.

  26. No doubt!
Your car was on e-bay right?

I did not know i was going this far with all the rust repairs... But well worth it!

I cant wait to get it back on the road.
