I had the little bastards everywhere last year. They got into my hockey bag, pissed and shit all over my equipment, I had a freshly built motor, they crawled in the intake ports and stored food and shit in there. They were even invading my house. So i got an exterminator. He brought little black boxes of death and put them all over. They just have a solid chunk of poison in them, but animals cant get at it.

This summer we smelled about 15 dead mice at different times, but no more mouse poop anywhere.

I found a mouse city in one of the walls of my shop, they had roads all over, and a huge storage of food, their main food was rat poison....needless to say, the shop is now mouse free. :D

I use jack stands which I cover with axle grease. I then place two pans on each running board filled with Skippy peanut butter (no nuts). If the mice get pass the grease, they eat so much peanut butter that they leave the interior/wiring alone. Works for me....Good Luck.

We had lots of problems with Mice not only in the garage but in my wifes car. The damn things were eating 2 bags of 'poison' per night and coming back for more!

Solved the problem by resorting to an old school method that has already been mentioned above.

A 5 gallon bucket 2/3rds filled with water and sprinkled with cheerios, tried coco pops but cheerios seem to be their favorite, with a plank of wood to allow Mickey and Minnie access to all that wheatie goodness.

Problem solved. Dont get mice dying and stinking up the inside of the car after they have finally gorged themself on all the poison and keeling over from a heart attack, plus you actually know you have got the little Rat Rodders.

Plus it is cheap and repeatable.

And, if you are that way inclined, it is probably more humane.

I lived in a log cabin for a while. In the summer i tried the humane traps and caught a half dozen or so, but I think that it was just the same one over and over.
By the winter i gave that up and went to the snap traps and a pellet gun. I had them (around 20 of 'em) gone by the end of the month.

Ditto. Got one at the shack, it works well. But at home, I have some wild cats hanging around outside, but can't get in the garage (ok it's actually a barn), D-con in the corners, and Bounce fabric softeners everywhere else.

I have a cat myself, and she does good work. I have cat tracks in tne dust on my paint but no mouse tracks anywhere in the garage. I would suggest that you store your car with the visors down as the mice like to use it a scaffolding to destroy headliners.

I have a relative that stores their effie truck in an outbuilding that in no way could be sealed for mice. His solution is to lay an open tin can with gasoline in it on the floor of the cab. The fumes keep the rodents away totally. In the spring, he opens up the cab, removes the gas and lets it air a bit. Starts it up and sets it out in the sun for a day and all the smell is totally gone. I didnt believe it till I saw the results last year. Works totally.

5 gallon buckets really work. My brother-in-law's version is to simply float enough sunflower seeds on top of 5-6 inches of water/antifreeze to cover the surface and make it look like a bucket of seeds. Provide access to rim of bucket.
If you use A/F keep your dogs away from antifreeze, some dogs like smell of it, drinking is fatal. I think next year I'll use window washer fluid. Now I keep the buckets high enough off the floor to keep dogs away.

I protect the car inside as well as the exterior deterrents. Place boxs of mouse poison in several locations. When assembling a car, or anytime I open it up for something like removing the back seat or trunk mat, in goes a little box of insurance.

I hate the little fockers. Last year they chewed up a moving blanket and made a nest out of it, in the gearbox of my snowblower. What a greasy cotten mess! I hate 'em.

I use moth balls under the car and under the hood. Irish spring shavings in the car along with dryer sheets. Works well.

The bucket trick works for many pests. We use bird seed and cover the water then put a trail up the ramps. Gets rid of mice, rats, ground squirels, moles, etc.

A friend of mine parks his cars on large rubber matts, he says mice won't walk on the rubber. He has some heavy duty looking rubber that looks like it was used in a shop of some kind.

i store up to thirty cars, both inside and out, sealed garages, warehouses, whatever. My routine is to go to the dollar store and buy the cheapest dryer sheets they have. I put a good half dozen inside the car, under the seats. Put a couple in the trunk and a couple under the hood. For insurance, I scatter a half bag of moth balls under each car. Hopefully, the moth balls keep them away and by keeping them under the car, the interior doesn't smell bad. In fact, the dryer sheets make the car smell nice.

+1 for dryer sheets....Ive had plenty of mice problems over the years. Ive used decon, traps, etc. Ive had mice nests in y boats, cars, by the cowl in one said chevelle, etc.....

Buy a box of BOUNCE dryer sheets and put them under your seat, mats, etc....
I have not had any mice problems in 5 years now...

  21. I have about 450 old Pontiacs here in Az, most are parts cars but, not all. The mice problem isn't real bad but, it is there.'

I wonder if there is a way to solve this on a large scale, over several acres. A cat wouldn't work. Traps have worked but, in a limited way. perhaps the dryer sheets are worth a try? buy a case?
    hmmmm

...if mothballs smell bad to mice AND are toxic, I say the first part is the warning, the second part is the "I told you so".

Anyway, I am glad I found this thread...Looks like I am taking a trip to the hardware store for the bucket-o-death kit + Bounce dryer sheets.

    Thanks, HAMBers.

There was a similar thread done a few months back on this, some good ideas came out of it.
I recommend sprinkling snake shit around the place and the mice know it is too risky to hang around.
Snake shit is available from good pet stores I am told.

We used to have 5-gallon pails of drain oil sitting in the barn. Every time we emptied them there was a layer of dead mice on the bottom. They cant swim in oil.

Believe it or don't, I handle mice  for a living (drug research)! They hate the high frequency noise these things put out. It works!!

Those plug in sonic pest repellers suck. I found mouse terds right on top of the f*cking things.

Try to seal off all openings & use those new no touch traps with peanut butter as bait to reduce the herd.

my family have always spread crab apples all around the out side of the cars. seemed to work great, kept out everythig from mice, possums, coons you name it. i know it works because last year we didnt do it and the interiors are pretty much destroyed. and not to mention i opened the hood and a damn possum came running at me trying to protect her babies. smacked her w/ my crowbay/prop rod, and called the dogs to finish her off.
