    Hey Kevin,

The ownership of Frisco's Downey changed hands in 2008. It's still in their name, but run by different family member. The wednesday night cruize was doing well until the shut-down for the remodel and change of ownership. It's than that the trouble began.....The City of Downey shut down the cruize for no permit for music, or "games of contest". One more cruize was permited as a fund raiser for some "childs medical care org.", after that the city kicked the chair out from under Frisco. I still haven't got the true story on what was said, but the City ain't happy with the new owner deal!
That's why I mentioned in the other post about the city signing off on "your" cruize, before the **** hits the prop.

We always tell the city about the cruises and they've even attended, but these are city council members and other city employees. It sounds to me like someone pissed off a code efforcement officer. I was there at Friscos back in the day when Robt in his Stmroln 41 Willys Pickup and squared off against a Vette or something like that right in front of the place. The people blocked traffic on both ends and lots of noise was made. I remember the next week, The town of Cops and Stops lived up to its name!

It's funny how things change. The Friends of Johnie's and the Mod Com couldn't get a code enforcement officer out fast enough to halt the Illegal Demo! It took 2-1/2 hrs to get a cop to stop the equipment and funny how the hired help ****tered like the rats they were when the cops and a code efforcement officer asked to see their demo permit.

I'm glad that the former owners are no longer there. I hope this family member doesn't throw in the towel If he truly believes in his restaurant, tell him to stick with it. I apologize for the rant above(post #814), but it happened and is now history.

I did see that something was going on with the location a few months back, but had no idea an ownership change occured. This is the 1st that I heard of it. I wish them well then.

    I think that's a great idea! Gong from Bob's to a future Bob's!
If I can make it over there rather than leaving from TC.I'd be glad to leave with you guys, Lots of freeway driving then, But a great place to start.

I was hoping that the Long Beach area guys would grab grub @ Georges in Bixby Knolls and then shoot out to the Broiler then it would be much lke the Ghost Cruises.
    Shoot some input here.

How many people do you think would be interested:confused:
I may still have some maps, but we'd have to leave early and your navigator would realy have to be on the ball.
On both cruises I stopped along the way to keep the cars together.
This time we are supposed to be there at noon so we'd have to make it snappy if we were doing the route. That means no hour long stops at The Hat and we'd have to leave at the latest 10am from Bob's.

    Whadya think?

Id be interested, not sure how many others would. I for some reason thought that this was already in works. I know the last time this was done there was a great turnout.

Burny brought up meeting at Veterans Stadium at the swap meet.

    Kevin mentioned meeting at George's

I think it would be cool to meet at George's @ 11:00 and go up from there. I plan on going to the swap meet too.

    Harvey's now a F____n memory...amazing ....

Again the new 5 letter cuss word "greed" has eclipsed any connection to So Cal hot rod history.

What America needs right now are movies ..etc.. reflecting the fifties culture like AGraffitti and others... maybe we would respect and retain these treasures for future generations.

Maybe the Movie.. Duece of Spades can help.....

After 3 pm I hope, The pictures can be taken anytime and you guys are free to take as many as you want, If you are to walk the site, It is at your own risk as there are still chards of gl*** albeit small, as well as some nails around the foundation.

Adriene, Jim,I and several others were on site for our walk around meeting. It's ideal that the meeting to rebuild took place on the actual 2 yr anniversary of the demo. To quote Adriene when she saw saw the Demo that Sunday afternoon Saying to ****isa (who had been there from the start in 2002 when the terazzo counter base and the kitchen was torn up).
    "Now it will be rebuilt"!
She and ****isa were right in so many ways as we had Ryan's brainchild the HAMB at our fingertips and it is you guys that have helped/supoorted us all along the way!
You guys always thank me, but I say a BIG THANK YOU to all of you as we will start seeing progress on the lots as soon as Monday as these guys are raring to go and structural engineers are hard at work reviewing some of the historical aspects brought up today so that we can see a spring opening just in time for cruise season!
Please remember Harvey's/Johnie's is not gone, We are working very hard to make sure that anyone attended either or even both will have the experience of all three.
We're lucky that Jim has given us this chance @ a time of great economic challenge. It will be up to us to make the car hop area a success.
Please do patronize it because I'd hate to see it fail.
Jim will be there on Sunday. If you have any questions, I'll introduce you to him and perhaps he can shed even more light on the question that you may have.
To the SF valley guys, Adriene or I may be able to do that cruise with you, so let get some more participants on board. I'll look for the maps.;)

Bob's Big Boy is back in Covina

But on Wednesday, she was just finishing up a visit to a new Bob's with friend Jo Anderson of West Covina, pointing out her favorite menu item - "the drink you can eat with a s****" - a chocolate shake.
That's right ... the Big Boy is back. And the 6-foot-7-inch tall fat kid is standing outside with a burger on a plate and a perennial smile on his face at Westfield Shopping Plaza, 100 S. California Ave.
"I'm happy to have Bob's Big Boy back," Anderson said. "I grew up with Bob's Big Boy in Fresno."
Since the previous West Covina Bob's closed in 1994, seeing the iconic Big Boy from the road in other cities "would always bring back memories," she said.
It's those memories and the nostalgia that goes with them that Big Boy Restaurants International LLC is banking on in a renewed push to open more restaurants in Southern California.
Along with recent openings in Colton, Signal Hill, Baker, Barstow and Temecula, the West Covina restaurant is part of that push, said Richard B. Myles, the company's vice president of operations.
"There's a lot of interest in Bob's Big Boy in Southern California," Myles said, adding that 13 restaurants are in development from Morro Bay in Central California to San Diego.
It's interest that the West Covina restaurant

It was on advice from his daughter that he opened his first Bob's franchise in Torrance in 2005. He is developing another in Downey, with a drive-through in the mold of other Bob's.
"After listening to people, I realized, `Gosh, people really want this back," he said.
Apparently, there's still a market for milkshakes and double-deck Bob's burgers.
In its first seven days of operation, the West Covina Bob's has surp***ed all of the the chain's 365 restaurants nationwide in first-week sales, Myles said. Ninety-seven thousands dollars in volume was the previous high mark, but this one topped that, Myles added.
Louder wants to build on that success at the restaurant, which previously was a Chevys. An AT&T corporate store will be moving into another portion of the building.
At the West Covina restaurant, Louder said he was in talks with mall officials about adding car shows during the summer, much like the popular Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake, near Burbank.
All this after some initial concern over attracting youngsters. It was that 19-to-20-year-old group that Myles wasn't sure about, because of a perceived generation gap. But when young people talked about the Big Boy rocket that Austin Powers flew in the movies, Myles knew Big Boy had spanned yet another generation since Bob Wian opened his first 10-seat diner in Glendale in 1936.
"They relate with that fat guy with the checkered pants," Myles said.
And that "fat guy" has Louder hoping for a new success in West Covina.
"As a business person, I like that longevity," he said. "It's America. It's Americana. That's why it's something that's going to last."
The West Covina Bob's Big Boy, at 100 S. California Ave., can be reached at (626) 851-2627.

Not all Big Boys are equal. Mr Louder's resturants are really good examples of them.

He supports us car guys. We need to support his places.

Did anyone know that the famous Big Boy relish is good for cleaning tarnished chrome? And it tastes fine too!
