    Hey guys,

As some of you may know, I'm an automotive photographer based out of Washington DC. I also work for the Discovery Channel. We are starting a new channel currently known as Turbo which will be devoted to automobiles.

Part of each of our channels is having a set of core images which are drawn upon for advertising and promotional purposes. I submitted several images of which they actually chose one. They wanted to have a look of a car show. However, the one chosen has a Cobra replica from an obscure manufacturer that is out of business. The legal team is not happy with this. Since the image is going to be used all over the world, they want to be very careful.

Therefore, I'm looking to recreate the shot this Sunday, January the 11th at our weekiy gathering called the Church of the Holy Donut. Its at the intersection of 198 and old 29, in the parking lot of the Dunken Donuts and the Amish Market in Burtonsville, MD. The Turbo folks were looking for 60's muscle cars. I have a 62 Corvette convertible, a 62 Bubble Top, a 57 Chevy, a 64 and 68 Chevelle and a 67 Mustang GTA covertible coming. I would love to get 60s muscle cars to show up.

This is all weather dependant. Right now the forecast is for cold but clear weather on Sunday morning. That would be perfect for the photoshoot.

Keep in mind that if we can pull this off, it will be used literally, around the world for 1 to 2 years. So it would be a way to immortalize the Holy Donut and your car.

I have no guarantees that they will use the image but I know what they want so that's a big leg up. Email me with any questions: karmakvisser@yahoo.com or kenneth_visser@discovery.com.

Here is the photo they chose. The mini van has been removed and the cars in the background have been moved back. It gives you the idea of what I want to recreate.

    thanks

thanks for the input fellas! Even if Discovery doesn't use this photo, its a great excuse to dust off your ride and get her on the road.

All cars are welcome. I'm going to be focused on the muscle cars because that is what the Turbo folks were looking for. However, I would love to see any rods, mods and customs.

Looks like if the weather holds out we could have quite a gathering, especially for so early in January I"m also going to bring a high def video camera to shoot some footage.

thanks in advance to everyone who will try to make it out. Now if the weather will hold out.

    regards

  15. Speed sucks a lot of the time, but it's the only game in town for now. I'm personally greatful for it because I can choose not to watch all the BS stuff and what I do watch I love it. Nascar season is comin' soon and it's the only place to get info. I hate a lot of crap on speed so I just don't watch that stuff.

Speed Channel really does suck! Do you have any idea when the "New Turbo" channel will debut?

  17. no shit, they should get will castro to build "unique" monster trucks and sell them at barrett-jackson. the whole time having mike joy repeat "i'd say that was well bought".

hope the new channel is more in tune with what car guys want to see.

for those across the country that don't get it...on a nice Sunday morning in the spring and summer they can get 200-300 cars there of every description. All through the winter cars come and guys bullshit. Only the devout bullshit in heavy winter jackets in 20 mph winds but they do. Not very long though.:D

It is not exclusionary. No stuck up noses or attitudes here. These were taken on a slow Sunday a few years ago of the cars that would be appreciated here. There are plenty enough HAMB friendly cars to make a cool picture if anyone ever wants to do one. This particular time it seems that they want muscle cars. Nothing wrong with that.

  19. I'd like to be part of this but as of right now the NWS is calling for 1-3 inches of crap on Saturday. Even if it clears out Sunday, I doubt many will drive their toys in the good old MD. salt that will be on the roads!!!

Any chance of doing something like this in the spring???

Hopefully, if the owner's financing doesn't go thru, we'll be at the Amish Market parking lot this spring for many weekends to come. If the financing does go thru and construction begins, we will move across the street, behind the Giant to the commuter parking lot where a Starbucks is going to see an increase in traffic.

The whole reason I am doing the photoshoot this weekend to recreate a shot that the Turbo folks wanted to use but couldn't because of liability concerns (damn Lawyers!) They were looking for a car show with some hoods up and some 60's muscle cars strewn about. I don't need a huge amount of cars to show up. But I will use what ever does show up. I will need to get contact info and releases signed by anyone that wants to be in the picture. From that I am going to add to my database so when I get a photo or video request for a specific type of car, I'll be able to make some calls and get it to happen. I'm also working on a launch date car show for when we do go live. It will be held at our headquarters here in Silver Spring and will get some pretty good coverage.

There is no guarantee that the Turbo folks will want my re-manufactured image. However, if they do.... it will be used all over the world in Turbo's promotional pieces.

I don't have a firm date for the Turbo launch date. However, if you get Discovery HD, you will see some of the programming that will be used. Its definitely a different perspective then that of Speed. We shall see. If all goes well, I will have my own show within the next few years.

i hope the weather holds up. I don't expect gads of people to show up if its shitty outside, that's not up to me.

I do appreciate anyone who does make the trek.

    regards

Weather is looking somewhat iffy but still reasonable for tomorrow. I will be there regardless. There is a bit of a time crunch in that Turbo is making the decision very soon for their core image shot so I really want to get this done tomorrow.

I'm also putting together a database of car owners and their cars. The Turbo folks will have occasional requests for specific vehicles and I want to be able to find cars quickly. This is all types of interesting cars so if you want to register your car with me, email me at karmakvisser@yahoo.com. I need location, type of vehicle, all contact info and a picture(s) of your car(s). All info will be confidential.

    regards

I'm leaving to pick up the coffee and donuts and will be at church around 8:30 or so.

I hope to see some of ya'all out there!

Actually, I hope that we are going to be a bit better then that. Coddington is no longer able to answer the call and Monster Garage is no longer in production. I'm working on car show concept with Automobile Quarterly that will be much more interesting.

We shall see. I can tell you one thing, it will not be speed channel 2.

I'd like to thank all the guys that came out today. Its was a crappy day to have a nice car out on the roads. There was a gorgeous 67 GTO, one of 3 in its color, has never seen a bit of moisture since its original restoration after 80,000 miles. I was really surprised to see it out. There were 3 nice, driver Vettes and a couple of other cars. I had just enough to recreate my original shot. My good friend drove his Superperformance Cobra with no top and no ear muffs quite some distance to make the shoot.

I really appreciate all that made it out. We did the best we could, given the circumstances. Now its up to the Turbo folks to make their decision. Granted, I didn't have very good light to work with so...

We'll do this again some time. I'm very serious about putting together my database on cars. If you want your car included, email me at karmakvisser@yahoo.com. I want to be able to find whatever car the Turbo folks might want for whatever purposes, be it video or still or whatever.

    regards

    Ken

This is the shoot we wanted to recreate.

I used to live in the DC area. It might not be exactly what you are looking for this time, but I used to autocross with the Metro Washington Council of Sports Car Clubs
    http://www.autocrossers.org/mwcscc/indexnf.html

(I'm not affiliated with them in any way, and they aren't a business).

It's a group of the area's car clubs. There used to be a Corvette Club running an event every year, but they seem to have stopped. Still, you might be able to find whatever cars you need through them. Check their schedule of events for car club listings.

There's also a club that used to run a 2 day autocross at Cumberland's old airport, which often had rare and old cars competing.
