In one of the "Dreams of Legends" videos, there is a shot of a white or cream colored Bonneville roadster with Bird Rock Mobil Gas, San Diego, and San Diego Roadster Club on the grill. . Does anyone know this car? What happened to this station and this club?
San Diego Roadster Club I believe still exists. Go to Southern California Car Culture site, there is a link.
This won't help but those videos are a great way to spend a rainy day camped out in front of the tube coming soon: rodtees.com
The San Diego Roadster Club is one of the member clubs of the SCTA. The page on the SCTA site with contact information is at http://www.scta-bni.org/SCTA-NewWeb/Contact_Info%20.htm The SCTA is run by volunteers. Right now they're busy preparing for Bonneville Speed Week. Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
"Bird Rock" is in Lajolla area of San Diego. It gets its name from a large rock just off the beach that attracts a slew of birds. Not sure if the station is still there. I'll take a look next time I'm at the beach. Pretty sure SD roadster club is still around.
Pull up the el mirage stuff on google and you will see that SDRC is if full action on the lakes. Traderjack
The San Diego Roadster Club car your looking at was owned by Lou Bingham, he owned the Mobil Gas station in Bird Rock La Jolla. He is still active with the San Diego Roadster Club the car still runs today and is owned by Doug Eyres. The number is 831 and has had many records over the years. Also holds the record for longest running lakes car. The current color is light purple with a machine turned hood made to resemble the Spirit of Saint Louis ( also built in San Diego) and says Spirit of San Diego on the side. For more on Lou Bingham see his 32 coupe in the Rodders Journal issue on 32's near the back! Dan,
