Okay, I'm tired of fishing through links and thread for links to other threads. Maybe I'm not the only one tired of this, so I'm starting a thread that will hopefully be a one-stop shop for info on the subject. Please post your links and info here. Thanks! Here's the ones from a general search, but I know there are some out there that can't be found by doing a search for "drip rails" or "rain gutters" and now I can't find them... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=193066&highlight=drip+rails http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=120872&highlight=drip+rails Here's a nice tech thread... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=296898&highlight=gutters http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133745&highlight=gutters http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=169959&highlight=gutters http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9915&highlight=gutters Here's another good how to thread... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=300956&highlight=drip+rail Okay... post more stuff!
Ask and ye shal recieve! Scooter rocks! Now what are YOU working on with the ole bead roller? Or is it top secret? he he he...
I don't know about the Model As, but a '32 drip rail isn't nearly as easy to fab. Here's a really ****py pic that shows the profile of a '32 5-window drip rail: I need to get ahold of a piece of an original to working on fabbing some of these up. I got the above pic from someone else and edited it down to just the profile. Are the As really just a straight channel that looks like the lip on uni-strut? That'd be simple enough to make. Tim D.
I was thinking of you when I did this, knowing that you and I are in the same boat. Some good possibilities from the above links. I'm thinking about picking up some 20 ga to start messing around with. Also thinking of doing what the one guy did where he just had the initial bends made and then reshaped it to look right.
Tim, that looks pretty close to the 31 rails I had. Since we're on the topic of profiles, can someone post some profile pictures of the 28, 29, 30 and 31 gutters with some dimensions? Does anyone know if they varried depending on body style (coupe, vs Tudor or Fordor, etc.)?
Nope! No top secret stuff. Was going to see how close I could get to the edge of the sheet and then try to shape it, but I don't think I can get it close enough to get the correct shape. I think the solutions in the links above are better solutions. Maybe not though...
What kind of bead roller ya got and which part can't you get close enough to? You could always roll the beads before cutting and bending.................... Tim D.
Scooter, did you search Uni-strut? I didnt look in your links but that is the keywoord I have used to seach.
Yeah, been down that road. It doesn't look close enough. I want to get as close as possible to the original profile.
Scooter, I'm thinking out loud too. I would like to see the profiles of some of the other drip rails. Honestly, i never really paid attention to them until recently. If I had some examples and measurements, I'm pretty sure I could make those. Anybody got profile pics? Tim D.
Here are some dimensions off my 30 coupe. Duplicated them without the small bead in the bottom on a brake.
Thanks Canuck! Can anyone verify that what Canuck posted was the same from year to year and model to model?
Tim, I built some for a 32 sedan a while back. I did them without the bead on the bottom though. Otherwise they are just like the originals. I had some time in the final shaping because of the compound roll they make. I also installed them with 3M panel adhesive. Worked great! There are a couple of pics of them in my gallery at Metal Meet.
Hello there! Just got a new catalog, has everything you need! Restoration Supply Co. in Escondido, Calif. (800) 306-7008, also www.RestorationStuff.com. Super catalog you'll be impressed, I was, hope this helps. Jim in Texas
I have this catalog. It's GREAT! They are also HAMB Vendors and I've met them in person and they are great people! Never looked for drip rails in the catalog though. I'll have to fish through it and look. Thanks!
I was going to fab some up, but didnt know how good I could get it to curve with the body, So I used .5 x .5 tubeing, tacked and heated. Cut the opening with a plasma. Still have all the welding and grinding to do to it Dont mine the goofy drawings on the top, my drunk friends cant draw
